Around 1973/74 when I was about 6 or 7, my grandmother gave me several of my Aunt Beth's comics without my Aunt's ok. I'm not sure how good my reading was at the time but I looked them a lot. Some of them were:

The first one (I think) I got new and read - probably partially because i was an "Apes" kid - was by the King himself:

The first one I remember getting was DC's Tarzan Digest Vol. 1, Issue 1, which was back in '72. I'm reasonably certain I was reading comics before this, though. I think I was mainly reading Tarzan comics, but was probably picking up Brave and the Bold, World's Finest, and Adventure Comics here and there.

EDIT: This might sound strange, but it just dawned on me going to the barbershop probably introduced me to comics. My grandma told me she read Green Lantern when she was a girl (Alan Scott's first appearance was when she was 10) and she'd buy them for me, but I remember being exposed to a lot of variety (Leave it to Binky and stuff like that) at the barber's. It might have been there I first noticed them.

I'm pretty sure my first reading one was at my barber shop as well, it was X-Men # 25 and it took over 30 years for me to read #26 and see how the story ended.
I didn't even remember reading 25 until i bought in my 30's. Maybe a Popeye comic when i was 6 but i cant remember anything about it. I do remember buying and reading JLA 100,101 and have my mom throw them out and then getting a Bobby Sherman and Partridge Family comics to replace them. Then nothing until i could drive and bought GL/GA 121 and fell for Comics Big Time.

Defenders 18. Bought it along with a Marathon candy bar for 25 cents each back in the mid 70s at the corner drug store in Berwyn, Illinois

Scooby-Doo #4, bought it at the store across the street from the school one morning before school. My 4th grade teacher took it from my desk, and they didn't have another copy at the store. In those pre-Ebay days, it wasn't until the late 1980s until I stumbled across another copy.

Good old Gold Key. Back when comics had a little variety. They were gone by '84. I was pretty much stuck with Star comics from Marvel when I wanted something "different".

I got a chance to try different types of older comics at the fleas (like Kirby's Kamandi). I didnt go to a comics shop until at least '88.

My first trip to a comic shop was in 86 or 87, when The Dark Knight Returns first came out in TPB. I bought it that day, and it rocked my 11-year old world.

This was my other first. That is to say I don't remember if I got this or the Batman comic first but definitely around the same time. Spectacular Spider-man #51.

I appeal to you Batman experts; one comic that made a great impression on my young mind was one in which Batman battled Dracula (or was it a vampire by another name?)

I kind of think it was a "Detective Comics," but perhaps not. It would likely have been the mid-70s era. Batman squared off against the vampire fiend in an old house, pretty sure there was a wooden -stake- through -the -heart climax.

If you know this comic I would jump for joy!

I think that is it! At least, the face of that vampire looks real familiar. Was this published in the mid or late 70s?

Appreciate your expertise Sideshow Spock! Thanks much!

^Gustav DeCobra!!! Mike Grell drew him EXACTLY like Christopher Lee (he even referenced photos of Lee as Dracula) but Julie Schwartz spotted the swipe and made him change it. He STILL looks a lot like Lee. Great story, I read it every Halloween.

Nice write-up on it in TwoMorrow's Batcave Companion, where I got my info from.
