MAN OF STEEL Trailer is UP!!! Let the discussions begin....!
I will go to my grave saying Superman Returns is a good movie, but it wasn't the RIGHT movie at the right time. It's like if Nolan tried to make Dark Knight Rises first...it just wouldn't have worked.
Not a fan of Superman Returns, too much "remake" in it rather than something new, but it had its moments (the plane rescue may be the best Superman live action moment ever). I also Liked Spacey and Routh was fine.
And let me add:
Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville! Smallville!
Yeah, I know it was often hokey , angsty, and you could see the tv-budget. But I loved many of those episodes and where else are you gonna see a live action Legion of Super-Heroes?
The trailer looks "epic" but I don't see much there to say Superman one way or another.
Superman Returns was a fine film, right up to the super baby. That's the reason nobody likes that film. Fanboys turned on it for that reason alone (and it's a very valid reason) and they would have been able to overlook the other problems without it. But that was the "nuke the fridge" that made everything else unravel. WB deemed it a failure, but the movie already had so much baggage against it that it would have had to made billions for it to have been a success in their eyes.
Smallville was great. Once you realize they were doing their own thing with it and stamping it with their own history, it's a fantastic alternate world story. It's also the longest running superhero and Superman TV show. For good reason. It could have worked in movie form, but WB didn't want to do movies because that wouldn't invite everyone to the party. If you start over fresh, you hook in new people. If you do a Smallville movie, you're not casting as wide a net.
I'll give this one a shot. I find the costume kind of blah, but DC keeps putting Supes in terrible costumes, so movies with bad costumes won't matter anyway. I do like the S logo though.
I'm not too hype on ANOTHER origin story either. I think it was summed up best on the wwtdd.com site a year back:
>Because this will tell the Superman origin story. Yet again. Otherwise no one would know what was going on. “There’s a new director now, so naturally I assumed the character would be completely different,” audiences will no doubt say to one another. “By showing me what I already know and saw in two other movies, I’m now reassured that Superman is still exactly the same as always. And it was great. I enjoy watching the same story over and over and over again. I’m like a ****ing toddler
Or:
>And he looks good. He’s a good choice. Granted Brandon Routh was really good too, so this part is no indication of quality. And I’m so happy that they’re telling the origin story, because how come he can fly and stuff? Where is he from? Where do his powers come from? They never really explained that part in the comic or TV show or the first four movies. Finally we’re gonna get some answers
Superheroes aren't that complicated; no matter how much you want to "grown-up" them up. DC heroes especially. (We discussed that here a few months back as I recall....) The comics have a small caption at the beginning that explains EVERYTHING in one line. You don't need 45+ minutes of film to explain things.
Sometimes I wonder though, if it's not the AUDIENCE who wants another origin. Starts are always meningful since you get the hows and whys, whereas superheroes have always had problems with endings of any kind. I think the last Batman film is the first time we've had ANY superhero story actually wrap up.... exept for the comic where the Earth 2 Batman got married and retired. And even then the film set the stage for another round.... if they want. (If the cop turns out to be Azrael instead of Robin you could even bring back the "real" Batman in the sequel.) Maybe we ARE like ****ing toddlers, wanting the same stuff again and again.... which is why the same characters keep coming back. They're the safe bet 'cos we're already familiar with them.
kind of looks like a by the numbers rehash of Batman Begins, swaping out the title character building up how he got to the point of putting on tights and saving Metropolis.

sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Yes People have seen a Man Fly but there is a generation of kids who need there own Badass version of Superman,
Superman the movie Belongs to a different Generation like George reeves did......I want to see a modern kickass take of Superman....this just may be the one. that trailer was Epic!
Mind Blowing, Fantastic, Spectacular, Epic. Its about time we saw a real trailor. I love it. Love the way the cape moves and flows, miss the yellow S, but then, he did not have it in the animated series. Can't wait. Superman is here. A man can soar.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
Our parents had their Superman, we have our Superman...the next generation should have their Superman.
