Bryan Singer has cited his decision to pass on directing X-Men: The Last Stand as one of the biggest regrets of his career. He hopes that by combining the casts of the original "X-Men" & "First Class" films that he can rectify his mistake and alter the cinematic continuity so as to continue the saga of the X-Men the way he originally envisioned it.
Halle Berry returned to the role of Storm despite a dislike for the character and a tense relationship with director Bryan Singer at the insistence of Fox Studios, who mandated that as much of the original "X-Men" cast appear in the film as possible. However, due to Berry's pregnancy, her role underwent substantial reduction in the story from what the creative team had intended for the character.
Patrick Stewart returns to the role of Professor Charles Xavier despite the character's apparent death in X-Men: The Last Stand. Director Bryan Singer has said that this discontinuity will be addressed in the film, as well as the absence of Cyclops (James Marsden) and Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), both of whom were thought dead, though Singer has suggested otherwise.
Please Bryan, we all know they're not really dead. You saying so means nothing to those of us who already knew. Plus, we also know that Xavier wasn't dead, so that doesn't need to be addressed either.
