Well, Jackson is pretty much playing the Marvel Ultimates version of Nick Fury, who was actually based on his appearance anyway.

The Marvel movie universe is a weird amalgam... taking elements of both the Classic Marvel and Marvel Ultimate universes and combining them.

I'm an avid Spider-Man fan but I can't muster one reason how a white actor will be a better Electro. In fact, all I know about the character is he's a jerk, shoots lightning bolts and has a costume that would look absolutely laughable in real life.

Even if you took the DNA from the greatest actors in history and formed some sort of "Serpentor/Super Actor" they couldn't raise an ounce of credibility wearing that lightning face thing. And don't get me wrong, I love the look in the comics.

^Yep. Most of Spidey's classic villains are actually pretty under-developed. They really were just the threat of the month, and in a way a backstory to the current day-to-day perils of Peter Parker. Electro never got much of a backstory, as far as I know, so he's open to pretty wide interpretation as far as I'm concerned.
