Jamie foxx to play electro?

I have no problem with Jamie Foxx because he's a black actor. I just can't envision him playing a character that over-the-top, anymore than I could envision Robin Williams playing Electro. What I know of the actor's strengths just doesn't cater to any concept of Electro I'm familiar with. So the race of this villain is not in question for me. Now sometimes I think a cultural change in a character can actually make a better fit. Nick Fury is a good example. That character needed an edge and I felt like Samuel Jackson brought that to the role. So much better than the comic. The same with King Pin. I think Michael Clarke Duncan was perfect for the part and more believable. God rest his soul. But sometimes I do associate a cultural tone with a hero. Take the Falcon. If they decided to cast a white actor for that role, I would be p*ssed. I have always loved the Falcon the way he is and I hope he gets a freakin' bad arse outfit in the second Cap film. He could be so freakin' wicked.

^^^ I'll be curious how much of that story is taken from the Cameron treatment that floated around before the Raimi series started. Does anyone have a rough idea of what that story was? I think he figured into Spidey's origin. And the way this is playing out, that could still hold true.

if Electro is cast they better have a 2nd villain in there. Electro was always a rather dopey villain, although if they were smart, they could establish the character origins as a tie in to the other big Marvel movies. I mean, isn't electro the son of the Red Skull? they wouldn't even need a blatant tie in since it is a different movie company, just something casual like a picture of dear old dad (Hugo Weaving) on his desk or something like that

Agree. His ethnicity was never a part of the character, so on the Nerd Rage scale it's barely a 1.

I don't think a black man playing Electro makes anymore sense than a white man playing Tonto or Chinese people playing the Cosby family or casting Stone Cold Steve Austin to play BA Baracus.

I grew up reading Spidey comics and I have a vision of what Electro looks like and Jamie Fox is not it. It's not a racist thing like some may lead you to believe. It's about being faithful to the character in which you are portraying.
