Just saw it! Took the 5.5 year old daughter ($5 ticket or $25 babysitter).

Kid report: The previews were gangster related and terrifying - i had her looking away from the screen but the audio was outrageous. the actual movie was fine for her, she knew Ben was going to die and asked "does it happen now?" twice. when it did, she was sad but transitioned quickly. she was not scared of anything. but this is the kid who kills bugs for her older sister, holds tarantulas, and said "i like shots" after receiving 4.

obligatory comparison: it made a point to differentiate itself from the previous films. it was a different feel. it represented a different time in the comics and a different period of theater. both versions are great. i am partial to tobey over andrew but i think that is because tobey represents my era of the comic better not because he is necessarily better.

the movie: i loved the swinging scenes! the movie played out well. parker sounds like he is from NY. the movie had me hooked from start to finish. it is not the giant epic film that avengers is but a great movie on its own.

I had a good vibe from the previews of this movie and it sounds like it lives up to the hype.

I'm trying to avoid the spoilers un till I've seen it but is there any end credit stuff to stay for?

Saw it tonight. Very well done as most of my feelings echo previous posts. I did find Garfield to be a tad too quirky as Parker, but it worked here. I love the Raimi films, but this is in another ball park. I do wish the Lizard's design was truer to the comics, but again, a minor detail that does not detract at all from the film. The lack of CGI was refreshing. Garfield was dead on when in costume.

I'm gonna wait until my birthday (August 1st) to see it. A 3rd viewing of The Avengers should be able to satisfy me until then.

Just saw it. I took my daughter (7.5 years) and she loved it!! She did get little scared at some of the Lizard parts but she loved the Peter and Gwen Stacy romance. I will admit it's the best Spidey movie made. Garfield WAS the definitive Spider-man bar none and the emotion of the entire flick was all Spider-man. I loved it and I'm proud of that because I thought it was going to suck...

The only questionable trailer we had was that college choir showdown movie. It had a few things I didn't want my 10 year old picking up on. It went right over my 4 year old's head. And the Dark Knight Rises trailer didn't have anything too severe. Dani knows who Bane is from BTAS and Batman and Robin, and wasn't scared.

Looks like this movie pleasantly surprised the board as a whole so far, given a lot of negativity and doubt thrown at it (including some of my own). Glad to see everyone who has posted has enjoyed it.

There is one scene after a couple minutes of the credits but don't stay for the whole entire credits because there is nothing at the end.

I think this movie is kid appropriate. The violence is minimal and it is a fun movie to watch. The previews didn't have much that would leave a kid scarred.

Saw it today...it was much better than I expected...certainly superior to all three of Raimi/Maguire flicks combined...yes...even Spider-Man 2.

First of all...Garfield is at least ten times the actor Maguire is...there's absolutely no comparison...this dude can act. Maguire is a very mediocre actor...especially with that perpetual smirk of his...even when he's crying, lol. Plus Maguire has that very annoying girl scream when he gets hurt...I really wanted to slap him every time he did that, lol.

Stone as Gwen Stacy is at least ten times cuter than Dunst as Mary Jane...a superior actress as well.

The chemistry was more believable between Garfield and Stone...than Maguire and Dunst.

Garfield has the authentic Spider-Man built...very lean with long arms and legs...and his swinging (along with stunt doubles and CGI) mimics that of the comic book version of Spider-Man much more effectively than the stocky short-armed/legged Maguire...not even in the same league.

His suit was cooler too...as well as his mechanical web-shooters.

The swinging scenes were really well made too.

The Lizard was a good villain too...although I was disappointed he didn't feature that famous snout of his from the comics.

The movie was made with heart...while not as action-packed as The Avengers...it had a lot more dimension to its characters...better story...and therefore more soul.

The ONLY thing I didn't like about this flick was the music score...I though it was mediocre...and not memorable like past superhero themes such as from Superman, Batman, and even the Raimi/Maguire score...that's the only aspect of Raimi's Spidey that I liked better than this new Spidey...this score kinda sucked.

But other than that...a really good superhero movie...I can't wait for the sequel...the Green Goblin will obviously be the next villain...I hope he's not armored like in the Raimi version...I hated that RobCop look, lol.

Now it's time for Dark Knight Rises...

^Agreed on the score. I liked Elfman's Spidey score, and felt it was some of his best, less derivative work, in a long while. I don't really even remember any of the score, 3 days later.

Most of the recent Super Hero films have been lacking a good, memorable score. Captain America being the sole exception I can name. The Nolan Batman films have a strong score that fits those films, but I do prefer Elfman's Batman/Batman Returns/Batman Animated score.

The best superhero score is of course Superman...

If you are looking to get a rise out of people, you won't get one. No one is going to engage in a pointless conversation with someone who refuses to see it.

Go see it first, and then defend Raimi's trilogy.
