Look great so far and yes, it IS the spitting image of a Romita painted piece! Well done!!
I couldn't help but chuckle when you mentioned how much of a pain in the butt the weblines are! Just think if how many times Ditko, Romita and the plethora of other artists and inkers probably thought the same thing! As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure, if memory serves, that that's why the Spider-Man in the '67 cartoon didn't have weblines all over, simply due to the fact that they were time consuming as hell!
Anyway, I can't WAIT to see this piece finished (are you gonna sell color copies to board members, by any chance) and see what your next piece is gonna be!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

Absolutely fantastic. I'm also going to throw out there that highlights and shadows of the painting reminds me a bit of N.C. Wyeth, too. It's all good!Comment

That is seriously awesome, even more so that it's paints. I used to have some artistic ability as a kid but could never get the hang of painting. Can't wait to see the finished product.Comment
