    Classic comic cover recreation paintings

This is a project I've been wanting to do for some time. I'm starting a series of comic cover recreations...they're not supposed to be exact copies, since I'm doing away with the line art and doing all the shading with color.

Can't wait to do many of these...I'm having a blast with this first one, a classic John Romita cover.

Below are pics of the original cover and my painting WIP...

Great idea, enyawd! Should wind up looking a little like the Romita renderings from the covers of ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS and SON OF ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS. Are you doing these by hand or via computer? Either way, nice job so far!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Electro is my favorite Spidey villain (along with Rhino) due to the
60s cartoons I saw as a very young kid... so this kinda thing is
like the finest of art to me.... keep up the great stuff, man!

                Thanks guys!

To answer your question Knight, I paint the old fashioned way...100% by hand with a brush on canvas!

                I use acrylics...

I love how the classic covers had dialogue and actually reflected the content of the story! Nowadays, it's just a splash page with the title character.

BTW, I quit lurking a long time to say I am subscribing to this thread! Can't wait to see the progress!

Looks great! And right now, it's reminding me of a sticker fun book!!! You know, the stickers are in full color, but the books black and white so it can be colored?

Great work and Marvel could learn a thing or two from you about how much better doing it the old fashion way is. I hope this will be a long series from you.

Maybe Marvel will discover these and want to make prints of them
