Goodbye to "The Big Red Cheese"

This is the DCnU version of "Shazam"...

You know, the guy that used to be known as "Captain Marvel" and "The World's Mightiest Mortal" and "The Big Red Cheese" and looked like this:

    Sigh

Yes! More angry! More Buckles! Exactly what the character was lacking.

Now he's exactly like everyone else.

    I'll be in my room....

Shazam still bears similarities to the original hero, including the power to change from feisty teen Billy Batson into a superhero by uttering the magic word that is now his name
                — New York Post article.

So, every time he introduces himself, he changes back to Billy Batson.

"Hi, nice to meet you. My my name is Shazam." Thunderbolts and lightning, now he's a teenager.

I get why DC changed the name to eliminate Marvel from the concept — although no one thought the character's name was Shazam until DC title the comic Shazam and allowed a TV show to be called Shazam —, but the name change doesn't work. "Shazam" is a magical word, not the name of a hero. Everyone who knows the character's name is going to know his magic word. Just not thought out at all.

Maybe they should just call him 'Sham' the way this whole thing feels.

Never understood why anybody liked this character to begin with...I've always hated Shazam.

Because not every hero has to be dark and gritty. Some characters are just meant to be fun.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

MILLIONS of kids in the 40s couldn't have been wrong. Captain Marvel outsold EVERYONE at one time.

He deserved so much more. I kind of wish DC had never revived him in a way...

A kid that changes into an adult that's almost as powerful as Superman with one word? I thought that was cool when I was a kid.
