So far, Hollywood has yet to capture the quintessential Peter Parker, largely, I fear, because a Peter Parker who hewed more closely to the character in the book likely would sell no movie tickets. I respectfully disagree. I've seen Andrew Garfield in smaller Indie films and believe he has the right quality to play Peter.

I'm offering an industry perspective based on the consumer. I don't have to judge the film for anything. And without you seeing the film, why do you need to defend it? That pendulum swings both ways. All I said is Sony took a successful franchise with an endearing cast (plus director) and erased it. That is not opinion. It's fact.

What Fact?

The three Raimi movies still exist! It's not like they have disappeared or anything... Watch it all day long on DVD or download. Sony hasn't come over to your house with a giant eraser and rubbed out your movie collection. Cast and crew have moved on... Raimi himself made the decision to pass based on whatever criteria or negotiations went on behind closed doors. What are you going to do? Go over to his house, hobble him and then force him to direct Spiderman movies?

And the extent of my defense is summed up merely,,,

I haven't seen the film, so I can't say either way. If you've read the screenplay, then by all means I'm interested in hearing what you've got to say about the story.

I'm a Spidey fan, so I want the character to succeed, not root for him to fail. Spidey tries to think positive and overcome his obstacles... He pulled his disaster of a musical out of the fire didn't he? And boy was that a tone of wreckage to be caught under!

If this is does turn out to be the disappointment that you predict it will be, I'll be out there rooting for the next reboot to be better.

The real Fact is, You're currently reacting to an imaginary Spiderman film that only exists in your head, because it doesn't even fully exist in real life at this point.... They are still in the process of making it!

You don't even have a consumer perspective on THIS film, because you've not actually consumed it.

There's a big difference between discussing industry assessment and personal opinion. If you don't wish to discuss the pros and cons of rebooting the franchise without having to reduce your comments to this condescension, then just say your not up to discussing it and move on. You posed an opinion and question to me and I answered it. There is no need for you to misconstrue my position on the subject simply because you disagree with my response. No one is hoping for "failure". That is simply your attitude towards me because your trying to read something between the lines. The consumer perspective is based on the three previous films. I simply stated it's a risky proposition to reboot the franchise while it was still enormously successful. I want EVERY Spider-man film to be successful. But I also have no problem speaking up when I think it's trending the wrong direction. That's an expression of concern, not someone 'rooting' for it's doom.

I can't wait to see this film. The first trailer with the POV shots of Spidey gave me goosebumps. I like pretty much every incarnation of Spider-Man.

To me they all have their good and bad points.

Nicholas Hammond series: No supervillains, limited action and Spidey powers
Tobey Maguire series: Too much crying, Gwen/MJ switch out, Sandman killing Uncle Ben, more crying, organic webshooters, Power Ranger-Goblin, even more crying...


The key is not to focus on the bad, and just sit back and enjoy the good.

The freedom to critically analyze an unrealized event is merely the other side of the same coin which permits the freedom to anticipate rainbows & unicorns from the same unrealized event.

I, for one, cannot think of a single movie which actually benefitted from excessive studio meddling, production haste & musical chairs direction. If such films exist, I'd appreciate some enlightenment.
