Sounds like Quesada and "editorial" made a nice f'ed up mess of the Spidey mythos...with no explanation of how it was done other than "It's magic". I said it before and I'll say it again....magic does not belong smack-dab in the middle of the Spidey universe. Yes he can mix it up occassionally on the fringe but not in the core book(s).

I still remember what a big media event that marriage of Spiderman was. I think they even performed a ceremony with actors dressed as Spiderman and MJ, who wore a dress by a famous designer.
your memory is correct they did have a ceremony (times sq i think)

I thought the whole idea of the Ultimate line was to update the heroes for modern times and if they wanted to do MJ less stories this was the place to do it. Why mess with the originals continuity ...only to have someone else try and change it back once Quesada leaves...when they have a title where they can explore a marriageless spidey in ultimate....not only does it smack of sensationalism but a poor attempt to drag the franchise back on course(the wrong one as far as the marraige is concerned imo) after the events in civil war.
Does this mean we're gonna witness a yearly Doc Doom/Spiderman team up where they both try to get their Mother/Wife back from Mepphisto???

Quesada seems real good at creating hype and controversy (and letting Marvel's characters get majorly screwed over by writers without editorial boundries) to get big sales and get news (Alpha Flight's off-panel death, Civil War, Cap's death and now Spidey's deal with the devil to disolve his marriage and save his dear ancient auntie)...Not to mention a lot of the bad editorial decisions this deal is erasing (Spider Totem, Organic web-shooters, Peter unmasking, etc...) are Joe Q's fault in the first place.

All these years that he's been EiC, he should have been concentrating on keeping the heroes of Marvel on-model and making sure they weren't getting screwed-up to the point that deals with Mephisto were necessary to "fix" things.

I think it's annoying that Marvel keeps trying to clear Spidey's history, they've been trying it since the 90's with that awful clone saga.

It's a mess...........World War Hulk is the best thing I've read from Marvel in years,(about time he took the fight to them for a change ) Hulk, anything with The Sentry and Black Panther and Cap are about all I read. I love the characters, (well, cept for some) but Spiderman has lacked in the writing dept for years IMO. DeFalco crushed him in the 90's and Joe Q is picking up where Tom D left off, the New Avengers was the best idea he had during his run as EiC IMO. JMS is a wonderfull writer but he got tangled in the web Peter David got caught in, Peter had great ideas for the Hulk run but Marvel TOLD him what to do and it began to really get stale after a while, Jenkins did the title justice but Marvel has a way of gutting the big guns. I can't explain it. Wolverine loosing his adamantium, Spider-clones, Venom going "Good guy", the list goes on and on. If I didn't love the Hulk, Sentry, Panther and Cap so much I'd bail!

And there's something a little Norman Bates like about a guy who sides with his crusty ancient aunty over a superhot wife.

Does all of this mean that Aunt May no longer knows about Peter's secret ID? I thought that was one of the better modern day contributions to the mythos...

I know they've given him him web-shooters back instead of having them be organic.
