When is this getting released in the States, anyway? It's been out in England for ages, like over a year or something. It looks really good to me.

BTW, I'll be the one lone geek to admit I liked the Ralf Moeller show, but it wasn't Conan. More of a Clone-an. The dude was so moral and pious, he was like Superman in a loincloth. One episode actually had him saving a sort of predecessor to Saint Mary (it's hard to explain, they hinted that Jesus was the ultimate God after several avatars [such as Crom, who was a really nice guy] came before Him]), even. At any rate, if you just take it for what it is, it's a fun show--you can see them use film tricks like having people run around in the background to imitate a huge battle--and the best actor in the bunch is the dwarf fellow. The guy is actually talented, maybe more than the show deserves. Not true at all to Conan, but mindless fun.

Someone mentioned Conan the Destroyer. That movie is a "little person" and an interpretative dance bit away from being a 60's sword and sandles movie.

I also like Ralf Moeller's show, but I agree with torgopizza on it not being Conan.

I should also mentioned that despite my feelings about the story, I liked the new movie and hope that more are made. Even if it becomes a direct to DVD/Blue-Ray franchise.
      Hey! Check out the pictures.

i really enjoyed the new Conan. I was concerned about the casting of Momoa, however after seeing him in Game Of Thrones, I was anxious to see how he did. He did well. I also, believe he is a better Conan than Arnold. I really enjoyed the story/plot. I also thought Rose McGowan was magnificent!

I do anticipate a sequel and welcome it!

Yeah, I'm still surprised that it never got a US relrease.
The movie was made in 2009, released theatrically in UK and other countries in early 2010, and then also on DVD & Blu Ray here last year.

It got shown at a few film festivals in the US and Canada, but then didn't seem to get picked up by a US distributor at all.

Good cast, too... James Purefoy, Max Von Sydow, Pete Postlethwaite.

Just picked up the DVD, and unlike a lot of DVDs now, there are some good extras--"making of" features and stuff, like mini-docs about the history of the character and so on. There was only one copy left at Best Buy, so I'm hoping they make enough on the DVD to make up for the poor box office and make a sequel. I have hopes a lot of people that missed it in theaters and/or hate 3D releases (it was only in 3D here, which was a bummer) will give it a shot now.

                    ...
This Movie was Made by Lionsgate ..., given their Track record ..., I think it is possible for a sequel to be made. This Movie seems to be picking up steam on DVD & Blueray .

I watched the film over the weekend and found it lacking in a few categories. The girls looked like they came directly from a Vegas strip show. Conan was nothing like the Robert E Howard character I envisioned in the novels. And the story was not very engaging, even by sci-fi measures. I had a hard time staying awake through the whole film. I was hoping it would be better, but I guess as Conan goes, I do hold the concept to a standard I thought the first Conan film back in the early 80's met. Of course the sequel sucked like a big dog. But this new one didn't pass the smell test much better because it all seemed too artificial to be believed. When it comes to any kind of fantasy and sci-fi film, I can believe anything I'm seeing as long the world doesn't appear to be done on a set or seem to contradict it's own rules of reality. I thought this film violated both premises on a regular basis. That's why I could not buy into it.

BK and I agree on a lot of movies, most actually. This is a rare time when we spilt.

I am not exaggerating when I proclaim this to be the worst movie I've seen in a very long time.

I knew I was in trouble in the first two minutes with the womb shot. Anyone who has seen this knows what I'm referring to. A mere moment before I was thinking there was no way they would do it, but BAM! Sword goes through the womb and nicks the baby. The director took the words born on the battlefield a bit too literal.

Just nothing worked in this movie. The cheesy and cliched villains, the cheap sets, the patchwork editing between scenes and horrible acting made this movie nearly unwatchable, yet there I was mouth agape trying to figure out how they got this so wrong. Plot holes emerged every twenty minutes or so. Mamoa was likeable in the role and I think looked the part, he just had a horrible script to work with.

I may be way off on this and overly critical, but as someone who was reading Howard's Conan at the age of ten, I think I can provide some perspective. As a sword and scorcery film, it's not bad. As a Conan film it's an epic failure.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I'll admit that I'm no Conan expert. I'm not a fan of Milius' Conan film and I've never read any of Howard's Conan novels, but I read more than a few Savage Sword of Conan comic magazines when I was a kid and liked them, although it was probably because of the John Buscema and Ernie Chua artwork more than anything else.

That being said I enjoyed the new Conan flick. Maybe it's because of low expectations — the critics did scare me off of seeing it at the theater — or because after watching a ton of Christmas-themed movies and specials the last week or so, it was just cool to see a little (or a lot of) blood splatter.

I wouldn't argue that it's a great movie, but it didn't bore me at all, and I had fun watching it.

Of course, I love those old Tarzan and Bomba the Jungle boy flicks TCM has been playing on Saturday mornings since the spring.

Now, if you want to see a really good film, check out Hugo or The Descendants.
Source Code, Adjustment Bureau and Hanna are three of the better new films I've seen on DVD recently.
