And it looks like he's actually wearing a version of the new Superman suit underneath the robes, too.

Seriously, it's not that bad. Looks like they took Brando's robes and rethought some of the Silver Age medieval influences (capes, short sleeved tunics, etc.) with a more ornate approach. And of course lots of rubber.

Why is Jor-El even in this? Everyone knows the origin of Superman, and it was told very well by Donner. Move along please.
