Been available in the UK for about 3 years...legally too. Disney is just horrible at getting their act together when it comes to Marvel. 1st Cartoon series they put out when they acquire Marvel....The Iron Man Marvel Action Hour cartoons??!!?? ***??!!?? That shows you how pathetic Disney is when it comes to properties that are not homegrown. 1st set of Cartoons they should have put out was the 60's Marvel Superheroes Cartoons and then to Spidey and Friends...but they give us Marvel Action Hour Iron Man cartoons

Yeah there's no love here either for "Amazing Friends"...I only watched a handful back in the day...it was never required viewing.

I think the '67 holds up better for a number of reasons. While the characterizations might have been "cartoony" by nature, there was definitely some craft in those expressions. These were professional voice talents that were doing a number of projects at that point which are timeless classics (like Rudolph). Plus they were truly acting out those roles. The '67 J. Jonah Jameson is still the best portrayal of any that have come since. Honestly what he said back then would never make it through the censors today. The "Amazing Friends" seemed rather soul-less because the vocal artists didn't really put any effort into those portrayals. They spoke the lines in juvenile tones with really no acting chops to them. When the '67 actors spoke, they believed whatever they were saying, so you believed. I never got that from Amazing Friends. The animation was great. But the dialogue and general performance were simply too dumbed down.

i was wondering if i was slightly younger than some of you to. that can also influence your opinion. i adore many cartoons from the early to mid eighties, some of which i have to admit not many would like. One thing i have never understood is how some cartoons could be on saturday mornings for years (amazing friends for example) and only have like 20 episodes that play over and over again. You would THINK they would at least add eight or so episodes every year or so. Thats what filmation use to do with Tarzan. I think some lesser known cartoons would have eventually caught on if they did that. Blackstar and Thundaar deserved more episodes i always thought..

We get stuff like that here in Canada, where a show runs for years 'cos it doesn't cost the studio anything, or the station, and it satisfies the need for Canadian content. (Somehow....) "My Pet Monster" ran FOREVER on Global; and I see Teletoon Retro has picked it up.

                  >You would THINK they would at least add eight or so episodes every year or so.

No need. Kids'll watch anything.... for a couple of years, anyhoo. Then they move on and MORE kids take their place. Kids who never saw the show before. Hence why SO MUCH of my childhood was recycled. Sometimes, if there's demand or the studio is trying to market the characters they'll add a few more; but it doesn't happen a lot. Never did.

what your saying makes perfect sense. I still think it was the wrong approach though. saturday mornings to some (like me!) were a big deal back in those days. Its almost one of my foundest memories of media as a kid. The only cartoon i can think of that more and more episodes were made to keep up with the growing demand is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the early nineties you couldnt get away from them if you wanted to!

Yeah, but I think the key is that you were a kid. EVERYTHING is awesome when you don't know any better. To wit: I have a freind who REFUSES to watch anything he liked when he was younger, 'cos he knows a lot of it wouldn't hold up.

I have to beleive that like BATMAN 66 there is a rights issue for US release on dvd formats between marvel and NBC (who originally aired them) or even the contract was written for vhs releases but has to be reworked for a new format in the US. I suspect the Netflix streaming is leveraging the Broadcast licensing. Otherwise why wouldn't they have released them during the Spider craze of the Mcguire films like the 67 series was

'67 Spidey is the definitive version to me. I did try watching The Amazing Friends version, but it lacked heart. (and Paul Soles RULED Spidey's voice!) But I really love the 80s Hulk. (as well as the 60s version).

Do the ones being shown on netflix offer the stan lee narration or is that missing? The UK dvd sets due to rights issues had that removed as well as being slightly cut syndicated episodes

I never got in the Spiderman 1967 version. seen it but does nothing for me. its before my time since I wasnt born till 1971 Spiderman and His Amazing Friends 81-83 NBC came at a time I was in my pre-teens will always be a gold specially hearing that Stan Lee narration every Saturday morning.I also enjoyed the Hulk show from 1981 when they put them together only lasted 13 episodes I think?
