    Green Lantern Sequel IS Coming!

Apparently WB isn't going to be deterred by the Box Office take on this first movie...and they plan on forging ahead with sequel! YaHoo!

Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

Warner Bros. To Pursue ‘Green Lantern’ Sequel - The Hollywood Reporter

I like Nordling's final statement in the article..." Stick with what Geoff Johns has done with the character and the audience will come."

I'm still waiting for the promised Superman Returns sequel. Dane, this is damage control plain and simple. Why would WB come out and say otherwise right now and further sink this movie. I'll believe it when I see it.

All I can say Joe, is that really hope you're wrong. With the origin story now out of the way...and the FANTASTIC teaser ending with Sinestro, everything is set up perfectly for a sequel.

The box office here and abroad does not bode well for Hal, it dropped 66% this weekend. Its doing a lot worse in foreign markets. The biggest problem is that it has to clear 300 million just to break even. Even if it does get an acual sequel and not a reboot I imagine WB will look hard at the factors of its soft performance: director, star, script, Johns, etc.

        From Box Office Mojo

        1 N Cars 2 BV $68,000,000 - 4,115 - $16,525 $68,000,000 - 1
        2 N Bad Teacher Sony $31,000,000 - 3,049 - $10,167 $31,000,000 - 1
        3 1 Green Lantern WB $18,350,000 -65.5% 3,816 - $4,809 $89,311,000 $200 2
        4 2 Super 8 Par. $12,100,000 -43.6% 3,424 +16 $3,534 $95,186,000 $50 3
        5 3 Mr. Popper's Penguins Fox $10,300,000 -44.2% 3,342 +3 $3,082 $39,448,000 $55 2
        6 4 X-Men: First Class Fox $6,600,000 -44.7% 2,633 -742 $2,507 $132,815,000 $160 4

Don't forget that DVD & Bluray sales and rentals are LARGE part of the profits from movies. Some movies actually do better on DVD then they did at the theater(The Matrix). WB may be able to re-coop a lot of their cash from there.

If the dvd's sell, it didn't help Superman Returns all that much. They've got to appeal to people beyond us dorks to get big money.

Imagine a feature-film based on Morrison's work? They'd be passing out bongs with the 3-D glasses...

Sucks when your team is losing, eh BK? Maybe if you saw the movie 10,000 more times it would help get that sequel. Sorry I don't drink the GL Kool-Aid and think its the most brilliant thing since sliced bread. Just pointing out the facts with the box office of the supposed next big thing. I'd be all over this movie if it didn't star whom it stars and had way less CGI, especially the costume on the tool Reynolds. It probably would have been better off building up small with Hal getting the ring and fighting some Earthbound villains with a slight hint of the GLC towards the end.

How do you do a "Green Lantern" movie with less CGI? Green energy constructs and 3599 alien beings? That'd be like doing a "Transformers" movie with actors in robot suits....

No CGI toe stocking suit would have been a start. Not saying that the aliens could not be CGI, but on the other hand, lots of movies have done with way less and looked a lot better. Movies are really starting to look like vidieo games and less realistic.

Maybe if you SAW the movie you'd realize that actually never comes in to play.

Get used to it...And though I may agree with you on this point as far as things looking like video games, the fact of the matter is "Green Lantern" isn't the only film so steeped in this technology. The same argument could be made about 3-D films.
