BTW...that's why the planet scene was so silly...this is a size-to-size comparison between Saturn and Earth...

Remember...when that rogue planet was headed to Earth...and zoomed past by Saturn and its rings...they were similar in size...but by some kind of magic...it was reduced to Metropolis size...lol.

Had it been done correctly...the entire sky on Earth would've been covered entirely by the rogue planet's surface (providing that side of the world was facing the rogue planet, like in Metropolis)....no concept of a round planet would've been seen at all...think of it as rogue planet sky.

BTW...all life would've been long dead (not to mention the oceans acting a "tad" funny, lol) before it even gotten that close to Earth anyway...

I didn't want to post...many of you know I love Superman...but have always disliked Smallville.

But I gave in...and watched the season finale for the heck of it.

    Any good parts?

Yes...finally wearing the Brandon Routh suit ( ) caused me to hate Tom Welling a little bit less...but don't get carried away...I still quite don't like him as Supes...but I'll give him a miniscule prop here...lol.

The John Williams music at the end gave me chills...it doesn't matter that it was in Smallville...that was great.

The special-effects were impressive...especially for a CW Network show.

Ok...now on to the bad... ...

I HATE the 90120, Party of Five, soap-opera-chick-flick...feel of the series.

All this nonsense lovey-dovey-gosh-shucks emasculation of Clark Kent by all these women...do this...do that...marry me...don't marry me...and blah, blah, blah, blah....GOOD GRIEF...ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

    I want a SUPERMAN...not some male high school cheerleader for Christ's sake...lol.

I don't like Superman being portrayed as the bloody Flash. Yeah, I know, he's supposed to be fast...but that's not the way I want to see Supes operate...I want that old school up, up, and away look...not some super freak track star...that's so annoying to me (that's the one thing that bugs me about HBO's True Blood as well). Oh yeah...the opposite also bugs the heck out of me...enough with the slow-motion too...I swear...this Supes is the Ying /Yang of superheroes...make up your bloody mind already...lol.

Ok...and now on to this planet collision thing...oh boy. I bet geologists, astronomers, astrophysicis, etc...were rolling on the floor laughing their collective butts off...lol.

First I see...is a planet the size of Saturn (which brushed off some of its rings).

When it approaches Earth...almost side-by-side...they are almost equal in size.

By the time it's hovering above Metropolis...the planet is barely bigger than the city itself...

Also...I know Superman is very strong and all...but come on...him pushing a planet aside like that was even more unbelievable than Brandon Routh's island push from ocean to orbit...lol.

The thing is that no matter how strong Superman is...it's not possible for a small force like that (no matter how strong) to conventionally push a giant object like that. He would simply go through the planet...just like a tiny piece of black hole would do (to Earth).

But don't hate me...Smallville fans...I did give it some props...it was not all negative...so please spare my lowly life...lol.

    I give it a C+

In the previous episodes, it looked like Routh's suit, but it was behind ice or crystal or whatever. When they brought it out, it looked like a similar design, but was clearly more color correct. Primary Blue, Yellow and Red.

Ollie and Chloe are married in the Smallville-verse. They got hitched while intoxicated by Zatanna's magic, but decided to stick together. Looks like they are still together 7 years later. So the kid could be Ollie's actual son that becomes Speedy. The red and yellow arrows clinched it for me.

Now, never mind the forgotten Mia/Speedy from last season...

    So the little kid...future Speedy?
on second viewing i think it is not speedy but rather a hint that in this Elseworlds tale Oliver ends up with Chloe not Dinah.

just watching the show again I see Pete is in it.

just a nod, but he is there.

as chloe reads the comic in the beginning he is in the final panel of it with lana and chloe bringing the clubhouse kids together (the part of the show that was the central theme for 4 seasons but nearly ignored altogether in the finale because it no longer mattered to the show the show's plot line 6 years later)

    great moments with Pa kent.
I think that is one thing that made the finale work for me. The show hasn't been the same without Jonathan to anchor it. It's almost as if the producers were acknowledging the mistake and making up for it. John Schneider is a very underrated actor. His Pa Kent is now my favorite.

Finally watched the last few all the way through in one shot.

I'm a total sap for all the Lois and Clark character stuff over all the necessary superheroic posturing. I can only image what this would have been like if they had a huge budget to work with rather than their TV limitations.

Nice to see Lex again, although I really wanted to see him and Clark finally go at it gloves off.

    great moments with Pa kent.

The finale was done well and wrapped up the series nicely. I will say it was interesting how you never really saw Tom Welling up close in the outfit. It was mostly all CGI shots from a distance. But then again the show was never about the suit, so it ended on a consistent note.

I tried to watch this Show when it 1st Launched.
I got threw about half the Season ... Then Bailed.
I tried again a few years Back when Green Arrow Showed up. .... But again couldn't stay into it. I just can't stand TV Drama with little or no Action from a Super Hero Who actually has a Title out there Called Action Comics.

I do appreciate the Run they Had...., and The Fan base that was into the Show.

I think William's score has transcended the Reeve movies and has become "THE" Superman theme. I was glad to hear it, and I was back in Season 2 when Reeve appeared himself.

Here are two interesting reviews of the episode, from the Superman Homepage. I'm somewhere in the middle, leaning toward the positive review.

Superman Homepage - Superman on Television

Overall, I really enjoyed it. As much as I've loved Smallville, pacing has never been it's strong point. Some elements get dragged out, while others are resolved way to quickly. I think the finale suffered from that (like short-thrifting the Superman face time for clips and a drawn-out wedding ceremony), but overall it was a nice finish, I think.
