No, you're not alone. I got bored with some of the dialogue sequences and fast-forwarded through the part with Clark and Lois discussing their vows through the door. Yeah yeah, Clark's become a good man, blah blah...I wanted to see him wear the suit and kick some Apokolyptian butt. The thing with the Anti-Life equation looked cool, but why did Darkseid want souls? He's not the Devil. If he was just enslaving them, I could see it. I was very disappointed in the final "battle" between him and Clark. I've never liked the way they designed Darkseid and was hoping it was just the way he manifested himself on Eath, and that eventually we'd see him in his true form. So Clark flies up, pushes Apokolypse out of the way, and that's it? This is why I couldn't watch this series on a regular basis. It teases me with really cool stuff, and then leaves me disappointed every time(except most of the JSA episode). Oh, and where were the other heroes?
It was cool to see the suit, but why didn't they give us any real, heroic shots of him wearing it, that weren't CG? I did like the end, with him running out on the roof with the John Williams music in the background.

Smallville: Series Finale!

After thinking about it a bit more, I think the ending was very fitting for Smallville. Sure, I'd love to have seen a slug-fest with Darkseid, but the show wasn't about that, as others have said. Welling standing tall for one scene in the suit would have been great too. Not really sure why that didn't happen, but seeing as how at one point I thought we'd never see the suit period, this will do. I doubt it had anything to do with Welling's physique. He's always been pretty fit.
I think I would have been even more psyched about it overall had I not seen Thor just a few hours before this! After that all-out approach, Smallville's conservative stance on super-heroics was a little harder to come back down to, even for an old, right-from-the-beginning fan like myself.
One more thing: Man, it was great to have Rosenbaum back. In his few scenes, he OWNED this finale. I can totally buy him giving Clark hell for the rest of their lives, just out of spite. The Tess solution was a good one, and their final exchange was well-played. Glad they didn't have her return to the "dark side" before bowing out.

I loved it! Sure there wasn't a lot of action, but the show has always been about Clark(after all it is called Smallville)...so it was fitting that it ended being about Clark coming to terms with who he really is, and all they People that made him the decent person that he is, and him finally accepting his destiny.
The little bit we did see him Costume, I LOVED! And I geeked out every time I heard the John Williams theme.

I really liked it but I thought it was stange that they never actually showed Welling wearing the suit.t was all CGI and then the end was just the shirt. He must have looked really bad in the spandex. too flabby?Leave a comment:

i don't think it was budgetary. big superpowered CGI fights aren't part of the show. i would have liked it too but it just isn't what thy were going for.... they pulled the same type of crap with Darkseid that he pulled with Doomsday. A huge build up and then fight that lasts a couple of seconds. Both characters are supposed to be able to knock Supes on his but but that didn't happen. I suppose budget restraints are the reason....Leave a comment:

Just one note I wish they'd stop raping my childhood and using the John Williams theme. That belongs to Chris Reeve's Superman Legacy not Brandon Routh nor this guy.The end really underlines the fact that the show was far past it's prime. I liked seeing him in the suit and the old movie score but they pulled the same type of crap with Darkseid that he pulled with Doomsday. A huge build up and then fight that lasts a couple of seconds. Both characters are supposed to be able to knock Supes on his but but that didn't happen. I suppose budget restraints are the reason. Using Lionel Luthor as a vessel for Darkseid was cheap in itself. At least the very end was good ole school.
Kirk Alyn,George Reeves, Chris Reeve and even dare i say it that dopey show lois and Clark all had their own theme music that made their Superman different.Leave a comment:

you're not alone I was bored with the first hour I was falling a sleep.I guess I'm alone in not liking it. First hour was a big snooze for me. Second hour, didn't really do it for me. All of that build up season long and that's it? What was the point to LOD last week if you aren't going to use them? Darkseid is done in like a puff of wind. More negatives for me than positives. Two positives were the John Williams theme and the end credits looking like from the original movie.
. It kept building up and building up and then 5 minutes in the suit.....
I watched it live, I usually just DVR it just way too many freeking commercials my goodness!!!

As a Smallville finale it was great. Nice ending. Getting the suit from JK, the music, Air Force one, JO, PW, GA in uniform. It all felt right. A full on shot of the Clark in the suit would have been cool.
Makes me want a series for sure. Having 20 adventures of Superman a year instead of one every few years would be heaven.
A few follow up TV movies would be good. Legion of Doom, President Luthor.Leave a comment:

I thought it was pretty good. Though, he was tiny, there was more Superman action than I thought there would be.
Wasn't Lionel's body possessed by Darksied? That was the Darksied/Superman battle. A slamfest might have been fun, but I kind of like when Superman finally embraced his destiny he was able to turn back the darkness fairly easily. The gold kryptonite wedding ring was a smart idea.
Great to see Ma and Pa Kent a final time. Like the fact Green Arrow actually used a bow instead of a crossbow to take out Darksied's minions. Didn't really care for the Lex-enstein plot point, but Tess' mindwipe cleared up a lot of things for where the story is supposed to go if the series continued.
it was cool for Rosenbaum to appear, though. He and Schnieder and John Glover as Lionel carried the series early on to me.
The Chloe bookends were great as was the final scene with Clark revealing the shield.
It was a nice way to wrap up the series.
Smallville had run its course, but I was thinking, next fall will be the first time in a long time that Superman (other than possible guest roles in Young Justice or Brave and the Bold) won't have new stories on the tube in one form or the other.
Based on research gathered from Wikipedia (I know its not a great source), you have to go back to 1987 not to have new Superman material in one form or the other on TV.
2011-2001 Smallville
2004-01 Justice League/ JL Unlimited cartoon
2000-96 Superman: The Animated Series
1997-1993 Lois and Clark
1992-1988 Superboy
1988 Superman Ruby Spears cartoon
----------------------------------------
1973-1986 Super Friends (of course there weren't new episodes all those years, but many of them there were )
1966-70 New Adventures of Superman filmation cartoon
1952-1958 Adventures of Superman (this show was in syndication almost since it ended)
That's a lot of Superman.Last edited by madmarva; May 14, '11, 1:18 AM.Leave a comment:

Well, we never saw him really IN the suit. Just some quick glimpses. The closest you see him in the suit where it wasn't a CGI creation was when he came up to the Air Force One window and the camera was over his shoulder. That did look like Welling's head there. And then the final-final scene.
It could have been the producers sticking to the credo of the show, or it could have been WB's licensing arm, or Welling, or a combination. But it was more than I expected years ago. Heck I expected them to cut in the scene of Reeve swooping past the camera a few years ago when thinking of how they would end it. If they would even do that!
I too agree it looks like there will be no spin-off. No announcements coming from CW, and surely they'd want to get a new show up and running to feed off of the heat of the finale.
As for Darkseid, I remember back in the fall, some bodybuilder/wannabe actor claimed he had been cast as Darkseid. Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read on the net!
