    Hmmmm.... I think he had the IDEA of the character, but not the presentation. The Joker is usually presented as being pretty manic, and the DK one was WAY too laid back. I think if they had the DK sensibilities with the Romero look and manner they'd nail it.

      The Joker was pretty laid back in The Killing Joke. Except for the song and dance number he did with the freaks while Gordon was going through the thrill ride. I'm not saying that KJ is the be-all-end-all of Joker tales, but it's pretty major, and it's pedigree no doubt influenced Nolan and co. somewhat.

      I kind of like how a lot of writers have alluded to the fact that the Joker can be a hyperactive prankster one minute, and a cold-blooded, methodical killer the next. It makes all of the stories fit the character. His chaotic nature makes him open to more interpretation than just about any comic villain. It's why he's the best villain comics has ever produced.
