That was NOTHING like the comics of the time. In fact, I was ANGRY at how many liberties they took with all the Superman mythos (and still am to a point).
The comics NOW were influenced by the movie and that's the ONLY reason that S:TM is even remotely close to what you all perceive as faithful to the comics now.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the movie and have all of them on DVD but to call that movie faithful to the comic is a gross misstatement.
I can't even think of a comic-based movie that I would consider faithful to the source material. They all seem to go out of their way to NOT be true to the comics so my vote goes to Swamp Thing.
The thread is about faithful to the LOOK not the source material.....Chris Reeve was DEAD ON target Superman come to life.

Did anyone mention V for Vendetta? The characters all looked perfect, and the movie was a pretty good adaptation of the source material. Also, Robin Williams' Popeye.

Doom actually looks a ton better than he did in the films a few years back ...

Yeah, I liked Doom all the way around better in that otherwise bad movie. It did have it's heart in the right place. You can tell it had ambitions of being faithful and epic.

The Nip/Tuck guy was just all wrong. And the character of Doom was handled all wrong. A little better in the 2nd one but not much.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the Crow at all. I'd say that was pretty faithful for the most part. It always makes me sad that Brandon Lee's life was cut short in such a horrible way.

I was thinking thesame thing, Ledger's Joker was well done, but it didn't come close to looking like the comic character. For that I'd go with Cesar Romero.

I'd say the DK interpretation of the Joker was pretty faithful to the comics of the last 25 years, in particular the Killing Joke. The Joker is clearly out to spread chaos about and prove that it's effects can destroy even the most noble of spirits. He facilitates Harvey Dent's complete descent into madness, just like the Joker tried to do to Jim Gordon in The Killing Joke. His threats over electronic media recall the very first Joker story, and Englehart/Rogers/Austin's Laughing Fish tale.

As far as visuals, it's a slightly different take, but he still has green hair, white face, big red lips and purple clothes. So not too far off the mark.
