    (Adjusts his nerd/geek cap)

OK, two of my favorite characters going head to head. Let's see:

BATMAN: Pros - Master martial artist, cunning, stealthy and sneaky. Carries a Bat-ton of gadgets and weaponry. Expert strategist and planner. Can and will fight dirty if need be.
Cons - No super powers, normal human at peak physical condition. Regular human weaknesses (not buletproof, etc.).

SPIDER-MAN: Pros - Proportionate strength (can press at least 10 tons), speed, and reflexes of a spider. Wall crawling ability. Faster and more agile than a normal human (can dodge bullets). Spider-sense alerts him of danger, meshed with his fighting style making him difficult to hit.
Cons - It's been established he'll hold back from using his full power when fighting due to fear of crippling or killing an opponent. Carry-over guilt from his Uncle Ben's death.

Truth be known, this fight could go either way. Batman has an edge based on his years of experience (he's likely older than Spidey), which would cause him to research and plan for damn near any eventuality if he knew he was going to fight Spidey. This could involve traps of a physical or psychological nature (playing on Spidey's guilt feelings, or the fact that he knows Spidey holds back).

However, as good as Batman is, he's still human. He'll eventually tire in prolonged combat with Spidey. Plus, Spidey has the edge over Batman in speed and agility - in theory he could land a dozen blows on Batman before he knew what happened, and use his spidey-sense to dodge any blow or Batarang thrown at him. His spidey-sense is an integral part of his fighting style, as his is taunting and bad jokes - Spidey can get very annoying, which usually cheeses off his opponents so much they let anger take over and they make mistakes. Also, Spidey's webbing is a very effective distance weapon. Cover Batman with enough webbing, and before Batman can cut his way through, Spidey could plant a haymaker on him.

Another point to consider - Spidey did take out Captain America, Batman's analog when it comes to fighting in the Marvel Universe.

If I were a betting man, I gotta give this one to Spidey, especially if Batman isn't expecting a battle. If he is though, it'll be a much closer fight, but I'd give the edge to Spidey anyway just because of his powers.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

This would be a great battle to me. The thing about Spidey and Batman both is that they generally take a licking before finally taking their tougher foes out. Neither would quit.

Despite Spidey's power advantage, I think Batman would ultimately win if the two ever feuded. He's more ruthless and has more resources. Spidey's also too good of a guy. He has the power to maim or kill Batman at any time, but he wouldn't do it.

While Batman is not a killer, he would go right up to the edge. Spidey's just not as mean.

But I really can't think of a scenario that would put them at odds for very long. Of course, there would be the obligatory misunderstanding and ****ing match, but they would be working together by page 10.

And Frank Miller would have Bats calling Spidey "punk" at least 50 times before the last page.

It always seemed to me when the DC/Marvel stories came out in rare form in the 80s. For some reason the DC characters alway found away to win.
I remember the Superman one where he was tricked into punching Spiderman and he caught himself halfway through the punch and he stopped and the force from that knocked Spidey through several buildings. Imagine what would have happened if that punch would have went through full force? They would have been scrapping Spidey off the moon.
Then the Hulk vs Batman one was classic. Batman gases the Hulk and the Hulk manages to hold his breath. So the Bats takes a one in a million martial arts shot and lands his foot into the mid sternum of the green goliath and he depletes his air and sucks in and there goes the gas up Hulk's snout and he drops unconscious.
Those big book issues were classics in my childhood daze. Yet, we never saw a Spidey vs. Batman. Maybe one day DC and Marvel will get to that.

                  THANK YOU!

I really get good laughs when people freely say Batman has defeated Superman in the past...but like you said...that's because of the usage of kryptonite...even a 12 year old child can defeat Superman using Kryptonite.

So every time they use that one...it's really a rolling up eyes moment for me...lol.

                  Batman is CHEATING, folks.

                  Without kryptonite...Superman farts...Batman dies...end of story...

                      Fun thread...

Look...I love Batman...but come on...to pit him against Supes and the Hulk???

Heck...he's even outmatched by Spidey....and Wolverine will slice him into a million pieces.

For Batman...you have to bring it down a notch or two...more appropriate opponents would be Captain America, Daredevil, and Black Panther...NOT friggin' Silver Surfer, Thor, or Thanos...come on guys...lol.

I know you love me, Meule...

We did get this in the 90's I think...

                          Plus a sequel!

Now look...don't take me as a Batman hater...far from that...I absolutely LOVE Batman.

However...I'd like to sort of realistically and logically (I know, hard to do with fictional superheroes) compare different characters strengths and limitations to one another...and Batman (without the aid of a cheating option, kryptonite) vs Superman is just not realistic (again, trying to use logic within the boundaries of comics).

Just because Superman is my favorite superhero...it doesn't mean he beats everyone in my book.

I can't picture Superman beating the Silver Surfer for instance. Superman is limited...he relies on both earth's gravity and our yellow sun for his powers. The Silver Surfer has the POWER COSMIC...his powers are limitless...he can blast anyone anywhere in the universe...he can easily travel beyond the stars...while Superman would have to construct a ship to travel outside our Solar System.

Superman is also susceptible to magic...that's why fighting Captain Marvel is so difficult for him...fighting a dude as strong as him is bad enough...but then magic comes into the equation...and Supes is at a disadvantage.

                            Batman should be NO different.

For all it's worth...Batman IS indeed the coolest superhero of them all.

                              There...I said it...
