I liked Bale as Batman. He was fantastic. Great screen presence and the right attitude for the character. The only thing that doesn't work for me, is the rubber suit. No matter what they do to it, or how they try to rationalize it in the film, it always looks cheap, phony, clunky and dumb. If Bale had worn the comic book suit, or a version of it that wasn't black rubber, then you'd really have something to talk about. Nolan is a brilliant filmmaker and I adore both of his Batman films. They're just great films, but the suit has always bugged me.
While on the subject, I'll go out on a limb here and share another opinion with you; Michael Keaton was absolutely absurd as Batman. Downright laughable. There was nothing imposing, threatening, strong, or heroic about him. He looked like a leprechaun stuffed into a rubber suit, with a black bucket on his head. One of the biggest casting screw ups in the history of cinema. And that suit? Uggggghhhhh, please don't get me started...

I knew there was a reason I liked you! I couldn't agree more! I HATED Keaton as Batman...he was totally WRONG for the role! And People defended him, and said he was a good Batman...UGH! To me...the first 4 Batman Movies don't exist in my Mind.
Hindsight is 20/20 but how many of us were chomping at the bit, waiting in line to see Michael Keaton as Batman back in '89...You can all be nay-sayers now but I betcha that wasn't the case 21 years ago
As for me, Adam West, camp and all, IS Batman for me...always has been and always will be

Oh, I went to see it at the Theater alright...and left feeling so deflated. It was a sad day for me as a Batman Fan.

I like the movie despite the Batman short comings, it really is more the Joker's movie though.
Keaton's Batman had a lot of shortcomings, the complete lack of physical prowess and the machine guns being my top two but Nicholson's Joker still holds up for me.

Nicholson's Joker was the only redeeming thing about that Movie for me. I liked the Joker's origin in the ACE Card Factory...and the scene with the Plastic Surgeon.

Totally.
And I even like it a bit more probably due to the movie's overall vibe.
Still, Batman is more like Bat Robot or Bat Statue when it's nice to
have him be... well... more "acrobatic". (ahem)

It would've killed the franchise unless they got someone with your expertise and patience for passing off the gray tights as the official
live-action Bat-costume to shoot it.
The reason why the pajamas work in DEAD END is because they are constantly being hidden by movement, shadow, tighter framing
of Batman's head area etc. in an already dark and rainy scene.
I believe it's too hard to do that for a full length movie though...
and really, shooting the costume static as little as possible is
a weird goal...that's why black armor or whatever works better.

I know what you mean...just look how small and puny Keaton looks next to Nicholson...
My God...Nicholson's upper arms are twice as thick too...

Adjusted for inflation, Batman '89 is second in the series only to Dark Knight with $500,489,200.00. Dark Knight currently sits at $590,542,600.00. I would say Batman '89 speaks for itself and played a MAJOR role in reigniting the genre' in Hollywood. Although many of us here, including myself, would LOVE to see Sandy's Batman, conceptually speaking, that original idea for Keaton was the right thing to do. Since the creators only had Adam West to draw from when making that film, I have to give the costume designer alot of credit. They had to overcome any public notions of camp which may have still been prevalent, while branding a new image. For Batman '89 I think it was the right approach and it remains a much deserved classic. These days though, I think it would be better suited to go for a straight interpretation like Sandy's.
Can't believe they would say 3 movies complete the story when Robin won't even be in this last one! Poor Robin never gets any respect or his story done right and that story is really about Batman. I know some folks don't love Robin here but Robin is more than just a wise cracking kid. Batman has to come to the realization that he will not be able to continue his crusade forever. Just like us all he's human and old age and death will come soon enough and one the most important things about life is to pass on the fight against evil to another generation and to give them the tools they need to succeed or else evil and crime will overtake Gotham! Especially since Nolan's Batman is in the "real" world how can they not have the last movie with Robin. I must say I liked Bale as Wayne. I think Kilmer would of been a great Wayne with the right director and script. He did great with what he had in Forever. Forever had alot of good points but the director Shmucked it up.
