3rd BATMAN Flick to be Bales last

Watching the news last night, and Christian Bale said that "The Dark Knight Rises completes the story...and will be his last Batman Movie".
Man, I'm so bummed. I'm sure there will be more Bat-Flicks, even if Bale & Nolan are not involved...but it worries me. Casting Batman/Bruce Wayne is important to me that they get it right...and they DID GET IT RIGHT.
Oh well...at least I've got one more awesome Batman Movie to look forward to.

These things take so long to complete that I can see why they'd...ahem...bail after the third one. Everything is about trilogies these days. I doubt we'll ever see something like we did with Sean Connery's Bond again...he did five and left before being lured back for one more (the 7th in the series)

I hope we see Bale in another Terminator movie. He did make a fantastic Wayne.

Bale has been great as Wayne/Batman. Its nice to see we'll have a proper Batman Trilogy that was all about story. Better he go out early than too late after the series has grown predictable and tired.

Have you heard Zack Snider's 10 year plan for Batman? Yeah, he said he wanted to wait 10 years until Bale is older...and then make Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns"! Sounds GREAT to me! Just as long as they keep Frank Miller FAR away from it!

I'll be sorry to see him go, but it will be great to have one actor portray Batman across a film series.

I doubt WB will be willing to wait on a Batman movie after Nolan and Bale are finished, unless you believe the TV series rumor.

He's a good actor. and I'm sure he doesn't want to get pigeon holed as one character. Like the Bond characters. Although Sean Connery had a very successful career away from Bond.

It's best to leave while on top.

When it comes to Batman I like the Idea of new actor trying the part.

Money talks, especially if Rises breaks all kinds of records. I'll believe it when #4 is cast.

Bale is the best Batman of the movies, bar none. He perfectly captures the modern, post camp Batman. And he actually resembles Neal Adams Bruce Wayne quite a bit. He is also the first actor to actually be physically fit for the role.

I can see why some think his voice was overdone, especially in DK. But it's a performance choice, and it grows out of several comic mentions of Batman's voice being a low growl. Not to mention a natural extension of where Keaton and Kevin Conroy went with it.

                      I agree with BK.
I have always been a huuuuuuuuuuuuge Batman fan,
but his over the top raspy voice was driving me, and my wife crazy in the last movie.
Lighten it up a bit on the voice.

Agreed 100%! This has been an annoyance to me in the new Batman movies...that corny deep voice Bale uses. He sounds ridiculous talking like he does when he's Batman...like he's trying too hard to sound mad. It's probably the only thing I don't like about the new movies. Still, sad to see another series ending. All that means, of course, is another reboot a couple years after the 3rd Bale Batman movie...which is also getting very cumbersome. Just when you get used to a new generation of actors playing the comic characeters (ie: Maguire as Spidey) they go and change the cast. Too much change in too short of a time...it would've been like us getting a reboot of Superman in the 80's after Reeve's debut (then again, looking at Superman III and IV, perhaps it wouldn't have mattered.) They should just make it a contractual prerequisite to anyone who accepts roles in these movies to be willing to play the character for as long as the filmmakers deem necessary to make more films. These typecast-paranoid actors should never even be asked to play legendary comic characters, especially knowing there will be sequels. Accepting a role in a sequel and not wanting to be typecasted is kind of bordering on counter-productiveness. It kind of goes with the territory and to automatically assume that every films series, especially about a comic book character, is going to only be three movies is not wise either as we know Holywood will keep churning out sequels as long as we pay to see them.
Look at Roy Scheider and all the great films he was part of; yet he'll always be remembered as Chief Brody from Jaws and Jaws 2; in spite of his wonderful performances in films like All That Jazz, Marathon Man, and The French Connection. He was very adamant about not being known only as Chief Brody and he spent his life trying to shake the role...yet in one of his last interviews he stated that his headstone would say something about Chief Brody on it. Of course the question remains would Scheider have had such typecasting problems had he declined participation in Jaws 2? My gut says no, he would've been able to move on from the character had he not been in Jaws 2 in much the way that Dreyfuss is certainly not typecast as Matt Hooper from Jaws. Same applies with actors like Harrison Ford; no matter how many great movies they are in, they will always be remembered as one charcater...or in Ford's rare case, 2 famous characters. I doubt there's anyone who looks at Harrison Ford and doesn't think of either Han Solo or Indiana Jones; despite all the other films he was part of. Donald Pleasence is another that comes to mind; the man had a great career prior to 1978's Halloween, but once he started doing Halloween sequels, he was typecast as Doctor Loomis. If you accept a role reprisal in a sequel you have to consider the good possibility of being typecast as the character you are playing. Nothing is absolute and of course I'm sure there's a few exceptions, but overall sequels=typcasting. This should be common sense to an actor who doesn't want to be typecast; when they are deciding to accept a role or not which pretty much guarantees a sequel...like these Super Hero films. So for the actor who wishes to not be typecast, it should be obvious to accept roles in one-off movies only (or at least movies where it's not so obvious that a sequel will be inevitbale) because appearing in two blockbuster movies as the same character certainly can't help your cause in not being typecast as that character. Makes me wonder how long it will take for Downey to become typecast as Iron Man, if it hasn't happened already. Not that I think Downey would mind that as he strikes me as the kind of guy who would welcome some famous recognition for one of his roles. Just my humble opinion.
