Seriously, is there any other superhero out there who has multiple races associated with the character? There's never been an ethnic Superman, batman, Robin, aquaman, Wolverine, Captain America or Thor. Green Lantern is unique in this and it's a great quality. Anyone of any race of any planet can be selected and be heroic.

Green Lantern is an all-emcompassing character and concept. Too bad it won't be seen as that.

    Scott
to quote Yoda "there is another" - IRON MAN. Jim Rhodes took over the suit but since the suit is the public face no one knew and when tony came back Rhodey becomes war machine.
in GL is the suit and the ring not the man (that's why there are thousands of them). But we all know that.

It's the same as when Superman came out and people believed Krypton was the ice planet, Hoth and the S on his chest was a family crest... or when Batman came out and folks believed the Joker killed Bruce Wayne's parents... and the other half wondered where Aunt Harriet was.
Ahh Pieface even in the 60's Dc knew that wouldn't fly outside the comics hence we had KYRO the alien replace Thom in the filmation cartoon

I can think of one really good reason why NOT to have John Stewart as GL, and color has nothing to do with it. He's simply THE most BORING Green Lantern DC ever created.

I feel so stupid sometimes. I guess I only deserve to be here because of my Trek and Hero Megos... I am clueless on the comics fronts, for example, I had no idea, never read this before but I've seen the guy....

I'll have to PM you or send me a link if this is more clear elsewhere...

I'll assume Krypton was not an Ice Planet before 1977, I seem to recall a bottled city not being icy... and I guess I do recall that the "S" was not a family crest prior to the movie either... whew, I guess I'm OK on that one.

Oh, OK. I remember that being particularly stupid. I REALLY liked The Untold Legend of Batman
The Untold Legend of the Batman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have the single edition paperback. I would have adapted this for the movie if I had my chance.

Alright I feel better. I'm with you. The Superman part threw me. I forgot about the reworking of the origin in that movie. I'm better now. Thank you for pointing these out. I have another thread somewhere where I mention I can't stand the re-doing of the origins. Hollywood really latches onto that. It is as if no comic has 2 good stories. Just the origin story before it all gets goofy. I know I've read about Superman comics having that problem. He can move planets in orbit so really, what out there is an issue for him. Except for the times he has trouble picking up cars...

But back to Green Lantern. There was a great cartoon I saw earlier this year and it was a great movie. It would be great as Live Action perhaps and because of GLs history it makes sense to tell the Origin with Hal Jordan.

Although I guess the movie could have been a John Stewart adventure with a Hal Jordan flashback. That could have set up a true Hal Jordan/Origin movie like the cartoon.

I would had to investigate that angle if I were in charge at the studio... Modern film to kick off. Origin sequel. Hmmm.

You know just for teh sake of a LONG movie francise i'd start with Alan Scott. I don't know how DC explained teh connection after teh Silver Age revamp. Ah heck theres always prequels.

How about this for an idea?

A different green lantern in each film? Chronologically speaking.
I want Guy Gardner. I actually thought his moonboots , Moe haircut , and double breasted vest was a cool outfit once.

Yes I cut my hair to look like him once. Yes my buddy told me my mother cried.

The official Green Lantern film has to start with Hal Jordan. I'd like to see Alan Scott's backstory brought in as flashback some time but these hollywood types never plan ahead. Just like Nowlan's Batman and soon to be Superman must exist in their own universes I assume GL will be alone too-except for other GL corps members.

I think another reason why John Stewart was included in JL & JLU was that Kyle Rayner as Hal's replacement, was the 3rd most dis-liked DC character, ( after Jason Todd-Robin II & Guy Gardner), in DC comics. The producers of JL could've had Kyle but they opted for Stewart because Hal was dead and they took a blank canvas and really ran with Stewart. Stewart can be a great if bought into the film series. The first film is just not his place. I also think Alex Ross once mentioned he does not ever paint Kyle as Green Lantern and never will.

That is a good idea. A movie about each Green Lantern. What is that? 5 movies and the Star's Salary resets with each one.

Someone in LA would love that I'm sure.

                  Great idea.

Hey! That's not Green Lantern. Everyone knows he's that dog guy. Or that fish head guy. Or that beach ball looking guy. No. Wait. Isn't Green Lantern a really hot looking chick?

Yesterday at work I got asked why Green Lantern in the movie isn't black. The person asking said "the original is black so why did they go with Ryan Reynolds?". I then had to explain Hal Jordan and then the GL Corps. Then they understood.

I dunno if Rayner was ever disliked to the Extent of say Todd. Or you could even state he was disliked at all. He actually has a Huge Fan Base. Also, You forget about Jamie ..., The 3rd Beetle , or Jason the 2nd FireStorm.. Or the "Other" Aquaman , and the New Robin ... Damien . I'd say These for Guys are More Hated Stand-in's than Even Todd.
