You're all wrong....Green Lantern isn't black....He is a white dude...but a BLOND-HAIRED white dude, not some brown-haired space cop...The costume is all wrong too...Where's his cape?
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

no you're wrong the Green Lantern is a purple Dude named Abin Sur......this movie is gonna blow.......
As Stewart was kind of a Jordan replacement, like Kyle, niether should even be in this new film. If it is Hal's origin story and subsequent rise to hero - the other two should wait for the possible sequels.
^^^^ It's easy to write Stewart into this ...., Given his Military Background. I could see why Hollywood , would include him. I doubt They would even address a Comicbook Artist.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.
BTW ... If someone is seriously wondering why GL is a White Guy ..., They Obviously Don't read Comics ..., have never seen very many Super Hero Cartoons, Never Sat threw an Episode of Super Friends, Never Played with Super Heroes , and Know Nothing about Green Lantern. This all may be very Understandable to the Majority of People in this World , However for people to actually post about this topic not "being in the know" on The Net and or posting on a Message board , I find it more far fetched for this to be True. ... If you watched Justice League or even Unlimmited , Surely You don't live in a Cave without TV, Cable and DVD's. More stuff in the last 2 yrs have come out with Hal in them than Stewart.
Green Lantern 1st Flight
The Batman Episodes
Batman Brave and the Bold Episodes
Duck Dodgers Green Lantern Episode
Justice League Final Frontier
& The Other JLA DVD ..., I can't remember the name.
These people act as if they Were cut off from the World of DC Animation for 5 yrs. I don't buy it.

>you will see that most studios go back to the roots of that material to introduce those characters to the buying public
....and 'cos your core audience are comic readers from way back. Even shows like the Justice League cartoon nerd it up 'cos they know you market to parents as much as kids.
>They Obviously Don't read Comics
Nope! Remember how low sales had been for DC the last few years. Most of the readers are long time readers; well versed in the mythos. Most of the potential movie audience are recent converts or folks who don't care about the comics at all and just want 2 hours of eyeball massage.
It's one of the problems with makreting a character long-term. Eventually you're gonna have to "modern" them up to snag a new fan base, but doing so raises some problems for the old fan base.
Que????? I'm just saying that "others" (the ones that he Posted) focus on GL being a brother. It's obvious that those people who posted those remarks need to buy a clue......
I think they don't see a bigger picture... that's for sure... but I don't
think "Comics 101" is a huge priority for our society...
(also, I'll edit this post to add that if they are being too
reactionary over race...it is indeed a shame)

The title in the thread says it all. If its just the "character", then why didn't he just say John Stewart, and not reference his skin color? I mean, I thought "everyone" knew who this "cartoon" Lantern was?
That's a solid piece of a point there if i ever saw one.
Actually, I'd like to pat myself on the back for not thinking about that.
Hey, I'm just as aware of race as as the next guy.... I just try to take
it out of the equation where ever possible, and it appeared things were
unnecessarily going the "racial" way...just my thoughts at the moment.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
You guys realize they're joking around, right? It's like on IMDb when everyone complains Lord of the Rings is racist because the main characters are white.

You do realize how easy it'd be to misconstrue it if it's a joke?
Besides the fact most of us are discussing this secondhand w/out actually
having been to the source's site... there's also the consideration that
John Stewart is a hugely popular character in the DCU.

My two cents- regardless of the modern kids perception, the target audience for this flick is "us". We are the one's who are going to go see this movie more so than our kids. They simply aren't a "Super Hero" generation. We are.
Thinking about the John Stewart Green Lantern, do you honestly think his back story would have the appeal of Hal Jordan's? I think not. With Hal you have the opportunity to bring in Green Arrow as well as the Parallax (sp)/ Specter story lines. Those seem much more interesting to me than what John's history could bring.

I agree 100% .
Outside of Stewart having something to do with an Entire World being Destroyed, and being involved with a now Dead Lantern ...., He really has nothing more to offer as far as History lessons and stories go, Unless He was a Supporting Character of someone Else's Story.
He was a "go to" for JL and JLU ..., Because of his Race, and the fact that Jordan was Dead at the time.
