I have to agree...superheroes are not what they used to be. Call me old fashioned, or "lame" if you want, but I miss the days of Superfriends and Megos, the Incredible Hulk and Wonder Woman on TV, and good WHOLESOME comic books.
I wouldn't let my child read half the garbage being printed out there right now. I remember being excited to find out recently that Captain Action was coming back, until I read the first issue. In the first several pages, Captain Action was having a threesome, with empty booze bottles on the nightstand, when a bunch of assassins bust into the room. Naked Cap kills them all, even breaking a booze bottle and shoving it into one guy's throat.
Yeah, I'm gonna let my kid read THAT.
In the pursuit of more adult comic characters, the comic and film industries have IMO tarnished the image of pretty much all the classic heroes beyond repair. Look no further than this winter's upcoming Green Hornet movie. Britt Reid is now apparently a lazy stoner idiot. Remember Superman Returns? My generation's Superman didn't stalk his ex girlfriend and spy on her with his X-ray vision.
I hope it's not too late to salvage what once was. I think if you grew up in the 70's like me, you'll admit that superhero comics were very influential...and in a GOOD way.
