True Blood's Joe Manganiello being considered as the new Superman

I was watching G4's coverage of SDCC and they had an interview with Joe. Mostly it was about True Blood, but they asked him about the rumors of him being considered for Supes and he seemed comfortable with it (like this had been on his mind and he wanted it).

The crux of it is from about the 4 Minute mark on. About 5 Minutes in is the mention of Supes, but the preceding story puts it into a neat context.

Well, when the talk of that came up in the interview, the first thing I noticed was that he is a physical presence. His arms look bigger than they do in the photo you posted at the beginning of this thread. I think the Dude has the role on his mind.

Sigh, I'm not going to bother defending Welling here, heck there's almost no point in posting about Smallville in this forum, but Welling has the build to play Superman as well. The guy goes shirtless for the ladies every 3rd episode. He's ripped. He could do it.

Not saying this True Blood guy couldn't, but Welling can pull of the physicality. If you ever bothered watching the show, you'd know this.

I'm with you. I think Welling would have been a fine choice for the Superman Returns film, or any new film. He's been the face of Superman for ten years, and he was cast for a reason. And I say that as someone who doesn't even watch Smallville with any regularity.

Sounds good to me! I was down on Smallville after season 8, but I gave it another shot and came back around. I think the new showrunners have gotten a grasp of how to handle things now. I'm really looking forward to this season. I think they are going to cut loose.

Routh was a fine Superman. And Returns is a good movie...it's just not the type of Superman movie anyone wanted, or Warners needed to reboot the franchise.

The Naysayers can down Tom & Smallville all they want...but it's proven it's staying power as they now head into the 10th Season!. And don't think for one minute Warner Brothers aren't aware of this.
Studios don't like to take risks with BIG BUDGET block busters. But by casting Tom, they don't have to...there's already a "built in" Fan base.

I think they should give Brandon Routh another shot. He would need to beef up a bit though, perhaps he could get some tips from Chris Hemworth. Tom Welling would be cool too, he deserves some closure

What Chris and I are refering to is that in EVERY SINGLE thread about Smallville people post only about how much they hate the show and/or it's stars. They have nothing positive to say - "I never watched it and I never will, etc.". It's fine for the first 5 threads but after that is gets old real fast. If you don't like then we'd rather you (people in general) didn't post at all.

We'd just like to talk about something we like without all the negative-nannies jumping in every single time.
