If the show goes all "Baby Plas" with him, I'll have a problem as it ruins the original point of the series.

However, if they just give him a little more face time, he's in the background more, a few more intros, I'd hardly even notice.

My kids love Jaime (thanks mostly to Tiny Titans), I'm more of Ted Kord guy but the show did such a nice love letter to him, it's hard to be cross with it.

First off, I love Jaime Reyes.

Second, He's a big hit amongst kids.

Third, Ted Kord didn't have any fans until Jaime took up the mantle.

You can't find ANY of Jaime's merch on store shelves, because the moment it pops up, it's snapped up by happy kids. I haven't seen a Blue Beetle figure yet that hung around more than a couple of days (the initial DCD figure notwithstanding, as that was released before the character's big push).

That isn't true at all Dude ..., Beetle Kord might not have been a very popular character with the Masses Sure, I'd agree with that, However Kord along with Boostergold gained a huge fan base in the 80's with Justice League International ..., and most definately rose to B list Material.

Prior to his entry into the DCU, didn't Ted Kord have maybe a dozen appearances at most at Charlton? It wasn't like his ongoing DC series had a better track record than Jamie Reyes. I wasn't really into the character until Giffen's Justice League, and I'm definitely a fan of that incarnation.

I think Jamie's been great in the Titans and Brave and Bold, plus he has a cooler costume than Ted's. I know from first hand experience that my Niece and Nephew really like Jamie in Tiny Titans, as well as his Brave and Bold and Toy versions of Jamie.

Right now, DC is catering to both fans of Jamie and Ted in the comic books. If you like Jamie, he's all over the place, and if you like Ted he's co-starring in Booster Gold's ongoing as a time paradox. Plus, Ted's also been in Brave and Bold as well.

Win-win for both camps. I don't see why fans of either character have much to complain about since both are given their share of the spotlight compared to ten years ago when you had to suffer through Extreme Justice and L.A.W. to get your dose of BB.

You know who should be upset? Dan Garret Fans. They really need to start mimeographing their letters of protest and co-ordinating their efforts through Ham radio.

My "Ted doesn't have any fans" jab is at those who came out of the woodwork Post-Mortem and pledged their support for Ted, and refused to even acknowledge Jaime, despite the fact that he's a great character.

Jaime is a great character, and I am a HUGE Charlton fan. He does my heart proud.

Ted Kord was given a big push by DC when they first bought the Charlton characters...see his appearance in Crisis as well as his own series that followed soon after. He lasted about as long as Blue Devil did in his own series....20-something issues.

After that, he gained new fame and popularity (along with Booster Gold, another 20+ issuer) as part of the Bwah-ha-ha Justice League.

Some guys aren't meant to hold down their own series forever (see the aforementioned along with guys like Firestorm, The Atom, Doom Patrol)...but it doesn't mean they don't have a fan following or deserve to be killed off and replaced by a successor who can hold down a series himself.

I can't see why putting Ted Kord into the new Blue Beetle uniform wouldn't have worked...after all, Ted was a tech designer, and the potential was there to craft him into the DCU version of Tony Stark.
The problem the Ted Kord character had was that he was forever tainted by that Bwa-ha-ha JLA, where both he, Booster, Guy Gardner were treated as buffoons. Where they made him grow a big fat belly, the money schemes, the jokes, etc. No one could take him seriously after that. I personally detest that entire era of JLA (and I know I'm in the minority there), but I feel it really damaged some characters that otherwise had better potential than the one-note characterizations that were shoved onto them by Giffen & crew. Even The Martian Manhunter, a character as powerful as Superman was reduced to the weirdo Martian headed Oreo eater.
I like the new Blue beetle costume. But if we can have an assortment of Flashes, GLs, Hawkmen, etc...why not two Blue Beetles. Even keeping Ted around as tech support/mentorship for Jaime wouldn't have been a bad idea.

My other concern with this announcement for B&B is that we may start seeing a more concentrated cast like in the first season, where Aquaman, Beetle, Plas, Red Tornado, Green Arrow were used the most. In the second go-round, they started to go crazy with obscure guest-stars and team-ups which I love. I'm hoping they continue that direction, but I've a feeling they may be going back to the contained crew in order to promote whatever character DC is trying to market.

I gotta say that while I love that era of JLA, it did go too far in making Ted a joke.

However, shooting a light hearted hero in the head isn't a good solution either.

I'm not up on current comics, but...

When I was, I really liked Ted & supported his initial title. I remember enjoying him fighting the Madmen.

I like The new BB--DC needs a decent armored/techno guy and the diversity is nice.

I do not want to see him dominate B&B, however.

And let's no go into Firestorm--I loved the original character/concept & miss him.

Yeah cause 12 issues makes the difference... Ted Kord ran for 24 issues for DC and Jamie Reyes ran for 36. Dan DiDio himself has said that the most recent series with Jamie was cancelled due to poor sales....

Blue Beetle was a book that we started with very high expectations, but it lost its audience along the way

So where were the Jamie Reyes fans to support this book? And I don't think they supported his "co-feature" in "Booster Gold, either.. (And I know that I had to pay an extra buck for crap that I didn't want to read )
