i think the plan for the cap movie is to have it set in a previous war - possibly WW2 (maybe a later or fictitious war) and then have him reemerge in the present day setting Avengers movie.

As far as other period stuff - non they really try to meld all genres of a character using elements from the 40's through today's comics. DC bucked that with first season of WW and the silver age flash series.

I think DareDevil is unfairly bashed. Before all the big Block Busters...DD was a pretty decent effort to treat a Comic Book Character seriously. It puts to shame the first 4 (so called)Batman Movies! My one big complaint, is that they tried to condense the whole Frank Miller DD & Electra saga into an hour and a half Movie.

The Directors cut is "MUCH" better by the way.

I don't hate Daredevil, I remember thinking at the time "Why can't they make a Batman movie this good?"

Yeah, DD is alright. Afleck did okay in it. I thought the same thing about Batman vs. DD. I can't really watch the first 4 Batman movies now without groaning a bit (or a lot).

My problem with Daredevil was that nothing seemed to happen! It was just missing some kind of jump.

The Shadow was ok..forgot to add that on my list too. It tried to combine the radio/pulp and serial versions of the character into one and IMO, it did a pretty good job. It was missing something though, and came off as kind of hollow. A Sam Raimi Shadow ala Darkman might have been the missing factor!!

the only problem i had with DD was that DD was so wasted that he couldn't get up to help elektra before she "died" at the hands of bullseye and then was fine to fight bulseyes 15 minutes later in the church

i don't think th e nickname change of his dad was necessary but that is nit pickin

again - we talk like this was a flop - it wasn't. it was a disappointment to many but not a flop.

i thought batman 1 - 3 were fine. i don't like 4 but kids loved it - tey din't care that batgirl was wrong, freeze was ridiculous and the whole thing lacked a cohesive story and was poorly written. they just like lots of characters and action - and my daughter liked a good girl and bad girl.

since 2005 add to list of those making less than 100 million US (reminder Daredevil made more) - Punisher War Zone, Green Hornet, Hellboy 2

I really liked The Spirit (I think it flopped). I thought there was some great moments and some humor as well ("Somebody get me a tie, and it better be red!") with some great visual effects and a bit of a cliff-hanger. I also find it funny how SLJ and SJ both star in that and in The Avengers (and that I just realized, literally, right now as I'm typing, that their initials match).

For me, I would have to say the Phantom is at the top, then Flash Gordon, and V for Vendetta. I love all those movies. And all for different reasons. I liked the Phantom because it truly tried to embrace that whole reality from the comics. It didn't shy away from how the outfit looked or how the characters were portrayed. I think it would have sold better had they chosen to portray the Phantom in night scenes. That might have played to audiences better with his moniker as the "ghost who never dies". Hard to visualize that suggestion in broad daylight. But that's how it played in the comics, so they played it straight in the film as well. I thought Billy Zane was in amazing shape to play the part and looked perfect in the suit. But I always laugh when I see him in Titanic, pulling out a pistol like the Phantom, but not being able to hit the broad side of a barn. Every time Emeraldknight and I see that scene we utter the movie's famous tag line, "Slam evil!"

Flash Gordon is one of those films I can never defend from an artistic standpoint. It has some God awful acting in it and the story makes the comic strip look sophisticated. But the film is just bursting with outrageous charm. It's not afraid to be this insane comic book come to life. And in some twisted kind of way, it manages (perhaps accidentally) to capture that innocence and fun of those old stories. It goes without saying, I love the soundtrack by Queen, and enjoy Max Von Sydow as Ming. He really looks like Ming! And plays it so well. If there was ever a jewel in the rough, he is it. So Flash is one of those films that for all of it's goofiness, somehow retains a timeless feel to it. The movie looks the same today as it did 32 years ago... Oh Lord. Now I'm really feeling old.

V for Vendetta is just an amazing film. It's social message is expressed in media reports and utilized effectively in large groups of people protesting freedom from oppression. It's a universal truth that plays out around our world. And the mask translates in so many different cultures as a symbol of that struggle. I think the movie certainly struck a note with people, but its not a film that has that kind of celebratory entrance of our hero. He is more of an ideal, than a person you picture "saving the day". It's a beautiful film, but also a think piece. Unfortunately that kind of treatment is not something audiences understand well in this genre. But the film has certainly made it's mark in the world and the message is still being heard today. Perhaps more than ever.

All three Punisher movies did not do well at the box office but were entertaining

punisher war zone was a bomb at the box office and I actually enjoyed this one. Not a movie for kids but if you like violence, then this one was for you.
