Helen Slater was a total babe and still a cutie.

On top of that, how about that Popeye's? Their sides rule and the Chicken ain't bad, neither!

Helen Slater was a great Supergirl. But the movie suffers from the same kind of overdone (and unfunny) humor that killed the Superman franchise.

Couldn't agree more on Treat Williams in The Phantom. He single-handedly ruined any chance that movie had at success with his scenery chewing. Well, the "SLAM EVIL!" tagline sure didin't help either. I kind of liked The Shadow with Alec Baldwin too. There were somethings that didn't gel, but it's watchable. The Rocketeer is a great movie. A true crime it didn't do better.

I absolutely Love the Rocketeer, Truly a shame that it didn't do better but it has gotten a bit of a cult following over the years and seems to pop up on many top ten all time comic book movies list. Truly had the spirit of the comic and one of the better interpretations put on screen.

I love the Phantom. Zane IMO was a perfect cast. Catherine Zeta Jones Growl!!! Treat williams was way too over the top for me. Best line in the movie was the Phantom to Devil......"Devil, If he moves eat him"

Loved Sky Captain has that homage to the Fleishers.

The Shadow is not too bad i can still sit through it and watch it..

Helen Slater was just such a perfect cast!! Shame they couldn't make a great movie to showcase her.

The Spririt. Bombed in theaters but has done OK on DVD. I saw when it was out and liked it. The mature tone was cool and it's hard ot go wrong with Eva Mendes.

Out of the bottom part of that list, the Darkman movies are the only two standouts. Hellboy 2 had the misfortune of opening right before Dark Knight (great idea Universal!). Its doing good on DVD sales much like its predecessor. I doubt we will see HB 3 anytime soon, Del Toro is doing the Hobbit movies, and Perlman ain't getting any younger.

I think I saw The Phantom only once, a very long, long time ago. It did not make any impression on me. The Rocketeer and The Shadow are a couple of my favorites. Along with Blade.

GAAGH! How could I forget to include The Spirit? (maybe b/c I haven,t sen it)

Sky Captain of tomorrow is not a comic adaptation and I wouldn't consider it a superhero movie - though it is very pulp comicy

Daredevil (mentioned in this thread twice) cleared 100 million dollars before inflation adjustment. DD did not meet expectations and was disliked by many but it did make money. It made enough $ to have a pseudo sequel (elektra) That is why I did not include it in BO flops.

From the 100 million list I forgot the 300

I really liked the Phantom and the Shadow, both those films injected a lot of humour into the mix. Billy Zane's Phantom was especially good, it was nice to see a masked hero not be brooding loner.

Both these movies have awful scenery chewing bad guys in the form of Treat Williams and Tim Currey however.

I am not sure the public has any deep interest in period piece Superheroes.

BTW Darkman is actually Sam Riami's tribute to the Shadow, he couldn't get the rights so he made his own story.
