I'll be purchasing Watchmen. I saw it in the theater and really enjoyed it. It will go nicely in my superhero movie collection. Plus I only saw it once and can't wait to see it again.
I liked FF2 much better than the first one. Doom was a little more Doom like, the Surfer was handled well, and Reed took charge more. Definitely an improvement. And yeah, I know, Galactus was a cloud...but it was still a good popcorn flick.
I started a post on another section - didn't see this one existed.
Did anyone see Watchmen the Director's cut in the theater this weekend?
I was in a Movie theater with 7 people, so it was close quarters.
It was showing near me. (I think there were 4 locations chosen stateside). The added footage really works nicely, but the Violence & Gore is rather intensified in ALL the fight scenes. Vietnam, the Bar scene, everything.
You will notice the stepped up gore & violence. Not Video Nasties level like Cannibal Holocaust, but it was enough to make you flinch in places.
Dunno what Veidt's secretary did to deserve such horror. (Thought the 1st leg wound was bad enough)
I did like the added plot scenes and extended bits.
The Hollis scene was hands down amazing. Love those golden age flashback bits.
Went out today and bought it without ever seeing the film and without any major knowledge of the backstory outside of the basics. I had heard enough to believe it would be a worthwhile purchase...the result? I liked it! Very edgy and without question a film I could not have anticipated. If I would change one thing about the film, it's Manhattan walking around with his "joint" dangling. I think a Silver Surfer-like anatomy would have been better served for a theatrical presentation. I loved the Comedian and am very interested to know if that one surprising death at the end (caused directly by Manhattan) was in fact permanent or will that character come back? I don't want to name anyone for those who haven't seen it. I loved the entire approach and I appreciated the fact that the heroes in real life were not these flashy, stereotyped models, but rather beaten down and very flawed human beings, like most of us. My only regret now is I didn't get the extended version!!!
^^^ Nope, he won't come back. There was no written sequel for the Watchmen. As far as the dangler, that was in the comic, so the movie was being faithful in that respect.

I hate that! He was my favorite character outside of Manhattan. Ah well. Very cool movie! For those who haven't seen this movie, you should check it out. Definitely a one-of-a-kind film.

the film is about as close an exact copy of the comic as they could do an not end up with 8 hours of film like DAS boot. Like the original comic it pick up at the death of the comedian and you learn who the players are as the story progresses. In that way the movie does not require any knowledge of the comic. those who know the comic well spend all their time nitpicking about what didn't get into the film (or the rubberised owlmansuit) or if they are more casual fans like me marvel at how much of the comic is exactly copied
I will be buying it most likely the extended cut to see the "missing panels" that didn't make it from comic to release like the death of Hollis mason
... Yeah Well I just say this Last Night,.. & I dunno.
I can't say that I care for this Movie or Story as much as the rest of you guys apparently Do. I really don't understand the Over All Hype & Allure to this AT ALL.
The Social Political Angle of this Movie ,.. was told in this formate about 20 yrs to late as far as it hitting the big screen. The Whole Idea of Nixon staying in Office for 4 terms,.. is Just the Stupidest thing in the Story it's self.
Rorschachs constant display of Narrating overshadowing got boring & over repeated so damn much,.. I found myself getting board towards the last scene's of it,.. & Ultimately I found myself struggling to not pay attention that much .... ... This is Why I say,.. When you have strong reading "Monolging" parts,.. you have to have a Actor Who can Pull it off & Keep your interest.
The Main plot in the Flick had me seriously not carring that Much with the 3 hr build up it had.... I personally would have much rather scene a story with the mini - stories & plots,.. because I did enjoy them a ton more,.. & liked that stuff.
I scene Ozymandias becoming the "Villian" or rather the "conflicting opponent" with some grand master plan long before it was reviled & when it was,.. I was at "meh" in it's self,... the twist of Plot as to why the character did what he "DID" WAS not rewarding at all imo ,... & was even more so tanted with Rorschachs death.
There was Much More SO Porn in this Flick than on any Soft-Core Porn Flick on Showtime back in the Day.... I can't help but wonder,.. How much of that was even needed to tell the story ? ... I know the 50 + scene's of the Glowing Blue "Package" didn't need to be scene.
Yeah Like I said I dunno,...
I think of this Movie,.. & story as one of them "aRT-Zy" "Fart-Zy" Type of Movies that always seem to Win Awards & Esteam from the Mass's & Hollywood,.. However I never really much like. This one Just Had Super Hero's & Visal CGR Graphics.
After Watching this,... I can't help but think of what Bruce wrote,.. as far as wanting his Money Back after watching Constantine....
The Only thing "Brillant" or "Amazing" about this Movie & Comicbook Story ,... is the fact of How many people bought into this Nonsense, & the Fact that DC Comics Chose to Make this Movie ,.. over ALL the rest of thier A List Properties in DC Comics.
