Discussions of quality of product and movie goers tastes aside, the reality for the studio is that Harry Potter has consistently been a major money maker for Warners, and a no-brainer for the "suits" that make these decisions whether to green-light them.
Batman Begins/Dark Knight as the exception, the modest/disappointing (in relation to their budgets) returns on Warner's most recent forays into Superhero/Comics adaptations such as V for Vendetta, Watchmen and Superman Returns probably makes them a bit more gun-shy I would imagine.
I'm assuming it's JK Rowlings indifference towards comics (if Marvel's discussions with her are any indication), but I'm really surprised that Wildstorm hasn't released Harry Potter adaptations/tie ins. They were really quick to get out Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre comics with the Warner acquisition of New Line.
