Yeah, it's pretty much a shame because the Hawkman series up until the switch to Hawkgirl (one year later) was a great read. There was so much to play with, the historical aspects and all. Then along comes Starlin and his atrocious revamp..why does everything have to be freakin' cosmic with this guy? Ok, Warlock was wonderful...get over it, jeez! He's been doing this shtick now for 40 years! Warlock, Captain Marvel, Dreadstar, Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet...then he comes to DC who hands him New Gods (which he screwed up, but at least it got thrown out of continuity a week later)...then Adam Strange & Hawkman, two characters who no longer needed fixing!

Looks like the Hawks are still around...last months JLA had them recuperating (although Hawkman was in JSA from Final Crisis Day One with no missing time). Didio has no clue from day to day. Cannot wait until he leaves DC and goes elsewhere...not holding my breath on it, but it will happen eventually. Marvel suffered through the same whims of Bill Jemas for a few years then he left. It will come.

I'm hoping Starlin's take on Hawkman and Adam Strange goes no further than those two specials they released...DC seems to ignore a lot of other plot points lately so what's a couple more? Just put the Hawks back the way Johns left 'em....no it wasn't perfect but it was working as best it could. Would I prefer to see Katar Hol unattached to Carter Hall and the whole reincarnation thing? Yeah... but it is what it is and there was some great story potential there to learn more about his past lives. Why screw things up with a "everything you thought you knew was wrong" approach?

Just give Hawkman and Adam Strange to the creators doing the Wednesday Comics strips for the two characters.

What they're doing with Wednesday Comics is what they should be doing with ALL of these characters across the board....let the good creators tell the good stories instead of everything being editorial driven.....

They messed up Adam Strange as well? I thought the Andy Diggle relaunch really worked. It gave the character purpose and got him out amongst the stars to explore the DCU out there.

I also thought 52 worked. Particularly that really odd situation of throwing him together with Animal Man and Starfire.

Did ANYTING good come from the Rann Thanager war? It's one thing to use Alan Moore's contribution finally, but they never really captured the disturbing "Alien" spirit of Rann and Thanager that he re-imagined did they?

From what I have read (maybe my translation is wrong) that Carter Hall has recently found out that the alien Hawkman Kator Hol that he was bonded with is actually the real personality that was there and Carter Hall was the one that died.
I think they killed off Hawkgirl because they want to bring back the alien Hawkwoman and get the two back on a roll together. Hawkwoman supposdley died in the Thangar war story line. Time will tell....ugh!

I actually preferred Carter Hall (the original) as Hawkman (when they fixed it) but now I am really confused....

Now DiDio is saying that Hawkman and Hawkgirl did INDEED die in Final Crisis BUT they were the Hawkman and Hawkgirl of another earth, similar to the appearance of another earth's Aquaman. What th'? He's just making this stuff up as he goes along because someone dropped the ball somewhere....

Here's a great rule for comic book writers. Go old school. No one dies in the comics. Not even the bad guys. Try that on for size. It worked for over 50 frickin' years.

I get the impression that Didio doesn't have a clue what goes on at DC anyway. Except for the stuff he mucks up like Teen Titans. Morrison purposly left the Hawkman and Aquaman up to interpretation because the big editorial(Didiot) didn't know at the time what was going to happen with the two chracters. Didio doesn't have to explain anything, except to himself.

It does indeed sound like editorial (DiDio) backpeddaling because he decided to change direction after the fact.....

What bothers me more than Morrison's vagueness though, is the fact that these characters (Hawkman and Hawkgirl) were even given a death sentence considering the very recent one-shot reboot attempt at Hawkman by Jim Starlin. Why have Starlin apparently trample all over the groundwork that James Robinson, Geoff Johns and others laid out for Hawkman and essentially undo it all JUST to kill off the character in someone else's (Morrison's) big event? That is the REAL showcase of editorial (DiDio) not knowing what direction they want to go in.

So I'm assuming the recent Hawkman Special is already out of continuity since Johns will have his hands back on these characters in Blackest Night. What a waste of $3.99.
