I don't like the fact that people a going crazy over this and already trying to make it go for higher than it's worth. Marvel should have given this out as a Freebie to kids. The Vultures get a hold of this and ruin everything. Nice cover by the way.

I don't know why they are calling the 2nd printing a variant as well?

Unless I'm wrong, the comic shop I frequent told me there would be a first printing and a first printing variant (the only difference being the Inauguration tag at the bottom). There is a 2nd printing which will have a different color background yellow instead of blue but unless I'm wrong, this is going to be the regular printing unless they do this just for Inauguration Day and then switch back to the original blue color for a 3rd printing.

All of this has me completely confused.

Marvel slaps the word 'VARIANT' on every further printing they do, as does DC. It will probably say '2nd printing variant' in the corner box. My understanding is there is a regular Spider-Man cover & the limited Obama Blue Background Inauguration day cover as first prints this week. Next week or the week after there will be a 2nd print cover of the Obama one but with a yellow/gold background and minus the Inauguration tag.

I'm sure there will be a 3rd printing variant (maybe the b/w or a "sketch" cover later on. And maybe even a fourth. And I'd be willing to bet that Dynamic Forces has some sort of signed version of this book coming out down the pike, maybe with another cover variation. Wizard probably will have a CCG 9.8 graded copy for sale as well. I'd guess maybe at least 5 'VARIANT" covers in the next month or so, until this settles down.

Just remember that after the rubes and speculators get through spending their cash, the market will bottom out and you'll be able to get a 1st print at a decent price, say $10-25. Same thing happened with the Death of Superman, more recently with Death of Captain America- the Caps were selling at close to $200(!) the week the issue hit. Now you can buy both covers, 1st printings for about 10 bucks. The rest of the printings, special covers, etc. are even less.

Was anyone able to pick this up?

I just called my comic book shop and was told that the only ones they were giving the variant to were customers who had subscriptions. They were going to have a lottery for the remainder of what they have after that. It's fair and equitable. They also said that if we did not receive a 1st variant, then we would definitely be offered the 2nd variant.

Not sure just yet if I will be one of the lucky ones. Again, if anyone picks up a spare copy, please PM me. I did try B&N and Waldenbooks. They were aware of the variant but have no clue whether or not they will receive any. They just stock whatever coporate sends them.

Could care less. Mostly because I don't read marvels anymore...let's leave it at that.

My shop recieved NO copies (not surprised!) of the variant. He did get the regular cover...I picked one up but haven't read it yet. I actually didn't mind since the regular cover was a good one by classic Spidey artist John Romita Sr.

My shop had no issues PERIOD...just as well, I really didn't need the temptation to dip into the Spidey pool again after "OMD".

What does the regular cover look like. I would still like to see how they do the story inside.
                          It's all good!

I own Stand-Up Comics in Lansing Illinois (plug) and we pre-sold out of the regular cover (which is a picture of Peter Parker with two "cougars" going out on a date with Spider-Man in the back) and we were supposed to get 5 of the variants (many shops couldn't get any) but our distributor dropped the ball and didn't send them to us. They assure me they will be in next weeks shipment as far as what the Variant looks like it is the image in the above of this thread and the second print will be that image but with a yellow background instead of blue. We will have tons of the 2nd print in next Wednesday though if any one wants to stop by we will also be in a first come first serve selling frenzy of our 5 variants there is no up charge on them but to make it more fair we are packageing them with the Alex Ross Obama Shirt and selling for the cost of the shirt + and the comic no up charge on either of them. No scalping here
