    Batman Rip Final. Part 6

    Hi, everyone;
Some of you may know me, as the person who has been keeping you all updated on this rip storyline.
Well pt. 6 has come out ( weeks delayed) I read this issue, and all I can say is
What the heck happened in this issue. can someone shed some light on it.
In my opinion, this story does not have a real end whatsoever. All I can make out is Batman Knew bout the blk gloves plans so he readied himself. If that is the case, what was the purpose of tis book( other then dc selling a few more copies) well ya all, it;s your turn to let me know what you all make of this last issue, what is the outcome? does it have an end? let me know. I would like to compare notes with fellow readers.

Sorry, I knew going in this would be Morrision in his incomprendible mode, so I bailed.

One question, and you can PM me if you don't want to post it here:

Did they kill Bruce Wayne? As in declared dead, no pulse?

      >What the heck happened in this issue.

I was at the comic shop yesterday and this was what a bunch of the people there were discussing. They were a little more vocal about it though....

      >what was the purpose of tis book

....setting up the NEXT big event?

I'm not afraid to post it......

        SPOILERS

Batman and Dr. Hurt apparently both go "boom" when the helicopter they're on/in explodes....a quick scene later shows Nightwing holding the cape and cowl (which Bruce was not wearing when the explosion occured) while looking over the waterfront. So no body...

The issue, like the rest of the R.I.P. arc, was inconclusive and rambling IMO....after all of this build-up I still don't know what the heck this was all about.

Who was the Black Glove? Apparently several people, including Jezebel Jet, Bruce Wayne's love interest, made up the "fingers" of the Black Glove.

Who is this Dr. Hurt? Was he really Thomas Wayne? Bruce deduced "no"...that he was a double of Thomas Wayne who starred in the movie "The Black Glove" and tied into the death of John Mayhew (from the Club of Heroes arc). Hurt nixed that idea and the on-line speculation is that Dr. Hurt was actually... The Devil. Now IMO, if this is what Morrison intended, it has NO place in a Batman story....just like Mephisto had NO place in a Spider-Man story.

After Bruce had removed the cape and cowl during the course of the action, Hurt curses the cape and cowl and says that the next time Bruce wears it will be his last....so apparently there's some loose ends not quite tied-up with this farce of an arc.

I'm in for Neil Gaiman's 2-part "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" but after that I'm done. I could give two craps about the "Battle for the Cowl"....

Thats Kinda Refreshing that they Didn't Kill Bruce, .. & did the Whole Disapearing act with him instead. Whether or not the story Sucked,.. I am glad for that outcome. I bet the Hate Mail at DC was Hurendious ,.. so they decided not to off him like ManHunter or Blue Beetle.

That might also be why the Book was on a 2 month delay too.... Perhaps someone rewrote it.

I've just read this issue and all I can say is ***?! I'm still confused, none of the storytelling made any sense whatsoever; it was all over the place and such a letdown. Bruce will no doubt pop up again in the near future to take the cowl back, especially when the title's sales go down the tube.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way...lately after reading one of Morrison's yarns I feel like an idiot for not getting it and I have to re-read it, only to find I'm still confused...

See, I don't get people who say this about fictional characters that hang out with the likes of Superman, GL, Thor, Wonder Woman, etc. Sure Spidey's removal of MJ was a silly way to go with it, but in the MU its totally possible that Mephisto would mess with him. Bats is a semi realistic grounded character in a fantastic universe, basically anything can happen to him.

When you're a kid you can read a story and whatever happens is what happens. There's a lot of acceptance. But at a certain age expectation takes over, the idea of what's "right" becomes more solid, and what's acceptable seems to narrow.

I agree, Batman; realistic, grimand grity, normal person or not, is part of the DC continuity. If you're okay with little big headed alien guys making rings that can physically manifest whatever you think about, an island of superwomen remaining hidden for centuries, an alien beign able to fly 'cos our sun is a certain colour, wacky chemicals giving you stretching powers instead of killing you, magic words making you superpowerful, a pair of glasses completely hiding your identity, alternate dimensions, other universes.... well; after that the idea of a supreme manifestation of all that is evil shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

'Course, having him just show up for no apparent reason and completely change everything is bad writing; but it doesn't mean that supreme evil himself is impausible, given the setting.

I understand that but by the same token I wouldn't want for say Despero or Doomsday to come to Gotham and beat Bruce to a pulp in his own book and kill him off. That's not what Batman's about, to me. Yes he can screw around with the JLA every now and again but I've always thought he seemed out in left field during the various Crisises and whatnot.
