So I was just looking at the questionable pages on the LITG site....apparently Mr. Miller is like a little kid who's just learned a new curse word...uses the dreaded "C-word" 4 times and variations of the "F-word" 4 times, all in the span of 8 word balloons. And this hack gets paid for this? Un-f'in-believable!

I am going to have to politely ask that everyone destroy their copy of Toyroom's post above.

          >Anyone else think they did this to Promote sales of the Book ?

It's funny you ask, since normally this sort o thing WOULDN'T be considered a good move. While it generates a positive reaction from the buyers it also generates a negative reaction from concerned citizens and the like. But with the advent of the superhero non-event I could actually see it being planned. I kinda don't think it was; but I could see it.

Takes the non-event comic to a whole new plane: the meta-event. It's like a comic event but takes place in the real world.

I shouldn't joke. Someone will hear me.....

Not really...even though EVERYONE seems to bash this book I still think it's actually one of DC's best selling titles every month. Go figure...

I knew people growing up that it was every second word in their household, it wasn't even done in anger, it would be "pass the effing this" and "Mom, have you seen my effing hat?" It was like they were smurfs.

                I guess they weren't alone.
But Brian, it's "edgy" and cool to drop F-bombs. And the C-word is perhaps the last fully taboo word left, so it's even cooler! And it's Frank Miller! He craps gold!

I haven't paid any attention to most current comic books in at least ten years. I can't say I've missed them.

I actually wish I could stop cursing, and am trying to, as I start thinking hard about having kids. Stuff like this doesn't help people.
“As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery… we have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.” - The Dalai Lama

This reminds me of the South Park episode where they were all excited because someone was going to use the S-word on television. It's such a big joke.
Technically, these books are for adults. No kids should be reading them without proper supervision.

Seems to me nobody should be reading them period. Now, I'm only going by that page of nonsense and cursing but if that's the best it has to offer, I'm sure glad I don't like Jim Lee.

I can't help it... I really want one of these - it just sounds too funny/stupid to be believed. No clue how I'd go about it, though- I would imagine there were lots of places that didn't comply, and those copies did not make it into the hands of folks looking to buy at retail.

As a sometime comics professional, I happen to know how comics are lettered -- directly from the script -- and it makes NO sense that the words should have been lettered that way in the first place. Why go through the trouble of an added step of "blacking out" the words, when all the letterer has to do is not letter them? The letterer might have written "&#@!" or "c***" or any variation thereof. Surely s/he was aware that the words were not meant for publication, even if Miller wrote them out in their entirety in the script. To me this all smacks of an intentional ploy to sell more books and create a media event.

                                That's exactly what it is.

One thing to keep in mind, this book is sold in a direct sales only store. Not at your local grocery food chain. It doesn't carry the comic codes authority stamp(freckin' joke anyway). DC doesn't have to worry about any kind of backlash. They've done nothing wrong. Mainly because these stores sell everything from comics to playboys.

But they have done something wrong. They have started down a road that they can never turn back from.
