I have no problem with a black Spiderman. I do have a problem with the way they did it. Murdering Peter and replacing him with biracial black/hispanic kid just smells of sensationalism and race baiting to me with additional over thought corporate PC of having him mixed to cover more demographics.
Personally, I think it would have been better had they done something like the Batman Inc. route and have team of Spider-men and women of different races and nationalities from all over the globe. Not perfect, obviously, but better than killing Peter, in my opinion. Marvel has a menagerie of multi-colored Hulks out there so a bunch of Spideys could certainly work.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
all I could do was shake my head when I read that. what a bunch of PC bull****. I am all for diversity in comics, but the character is a nerdy white kid from queens. that is what defines Spiderman. to change him just for PC is wrong. it would be like taking Black Panther, an African king, and suddenly making him a white guy. just goes against who and what the character is.
I guess it shows that the company really does not understand their own characters
I bought Ultimate Spiderman "The Death Of"...and have picked up Issues #1 & 2 of Ultimate Comics:Spiderman, because I was curious where they were going with story line. Now that I know...I'll be cancelling the title tomorrow.
a) none of you are reading Ultimate Spider-man anyways. Why shouldn't Marvel try and cultivate a new audience? It's not like there hasn't been a Japanese Spider-man or a Spider-man from India prior to this. (and Ultimate Black Panther WAS a white guy for the record... with nary a peep from the peanut gallery)
b) the Peter Parker you all know is still appearing in close to a dozen monthly books... including an additional dozen Spider Island spin-offs/crossovers this month alone. Not to mention movies, animated series, action figures, coloring books, bedsheets etc. One extra comic book NOT starring Peter Parker isn't taking away from any of that.
c) Donald Glover for the win.
Can't comic book artists and writers create NEW Superheroes?
I'm all for Black and Latino superheroes...but for Christ's sake...create new ones...don't mess with the original characters.
That's my feelings on this too.

Are folks not understanding that this is Ultimate Peter Parker that died... a character that no one here has ever really expressed any positive feeling towards prior to his death? That was the Peter Parker that was already "messed" to begin with when he launched a dozen years back.
HE'S NOT THE ORIGINAL CHARACTER.
ONE title with an alternative universe African American Spider-Man.
with a precedence of Hispanic Spiderman... (20 years ago)
Indian Spider-man (10 years ago)
and a Japanese Spider-man who had more screentime than all the other incarnations of Spiderman. (35 years ago)
Just to give you some semblance of perspective. For the month of Aug. Caucasian Peter Parker that everyone knows and loves appears in a ridiculous amount of titles. No one should feel anyway deprived by one extra title.
Fear Itself
Fear Itself Frightful Four
Avengers
Fear Itself Poster Book
New Avengers
TWO issues of Amazing
Spider Island Cloak and Dagger
Spider Island Spider Girl
Spider Island Master of Kung **
Venom
Spider Island Hobgoblin and jackal
Spider-man Infestation
Spider-man foes
All Ages Spider-man (the kids title everyone insists that does not exist)

WRONG!! I read and cared about the Ultimate Spiderman book for YEARS! So don't speak for me please. A year or two ago I did cancel all my Ultimate books...because I buy too many Comics and had to make cuts somewhere.
