I'll never get used to Miles Morales or his costume. I'm sorry, but he was created solely as a race pandering token character, and IMO anybody who believes otherwise is in denial. I can absolutely guarantee there was a business discussion regarding racial demographics and how they could boost sales by making a new black Spider-Man.

I can't see "absolutely" guaranteeing something as politically-charged as that.

My guess it's a lot more about "green" than it is about "black" in ANY of these type decisions.

Instead of making The Falcon Captain America...why not give him his own book? Throw in a good writer like Ed Brubaker and I'm sure he could come up with some great stories. Ya know, I've never been a fan of The Falcon until Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie. The writing was AWESOME, the actor was AWESOME and made me believe in him. I liked seeing how he quickly became a loyal friend to Cap...it was just so well done. It's all in the writing folks.

All "in the writing"? According to your own words, it's also in the "acting".

I have to attach myself to the idea of that actor's charisma (as you see it) to come near to interpreting your above-average estimation of Falcon's CA2 appearance, because the CA2 Falcon is probably the number-one worst written character in the MCU due to his apparent lack of anything unique or memorable in the CA2 script discerning his importance to be included in the CA2 story, has Falcon come off as brazenly gratuitous, and presumably being there only to fulfill adding another character to the Marvel action figure making pantheon.

More specifically, in the CA2 script, the already present Black Widow could have been the extra "sidekick help" that Cap needed to achieve his goals---and, if they needed someone more "fringe" than Widow, the already established (yet minimally utilized) Hawkeye could have also fulfilled that role. Instead they forced Falcon down our throats. You enjoy the Flacon actor's performance, so, I'll hinge that's the only thing that makes the character notably pop to CA2 Falcon fans----to use a rationale like enjoying "seeing how he quickly became a loyal friend to Cap" seems like a contradiction to me---even if we were to give the writer credit for high-quality "compact-writing efficiency", I can't, for the life of me, even remember what it was that bonded them together so "uniquely"/"cleverly" in the first place----and I've seen CA2 twice. Just my opinion.

To me, putting a black or Hispanic, or whatever character in Spiderman's costume just seems lazy and unimaginative to me. Is it really that hard to create a NEW black character? Are they literally out of ideas in the Comic Book industry? Or is it that they like to upset people and hope for dramatic arguments on fan-boy/geek sites to stir up attention for the BIG EVENT change?

My belief is that a comicbook fan is taking things too personally if they're getting upset over a time-tested proven business tactic which, as history has shown, is a temporary move EVERY time--- but that said, what you said about "stirring up attention", that's basically the idea--- as opposed to them not being creative, I mean.

"Spider-Man". He's THE "man" in Marvel's superhero franchise. Consistently grabbing press and stirring up public attention ain't a guaranteed when creating a "new black character" in the MU---make SPIDEY temporarily black (or Hispanic, or Martian, etc.) THEN you got things a-jumpin' as far as public reaction!

Agreed! I liked the Clone Saga right up until the point they said Ben was the original Peter Parker(then I was MAD!). But Marvel realized their mistake and fixed it...but they didn't have to kill him off. There was room enough in the Marvel Universe for Ben.

Yes I have liked black characters like Storm, Cyborg, Steel, Black Lightning, John Stewart, Vixen, etc but why permanently change an established white character to black or another race just to represent a racial character? I did not mind when James Rhodes temporarily replaced Tony Stark as Iron Man but then Rhodes became War Machine. John Stewart was only an alternate Green Lantern at 1st to Hal Jordan but became a permanent GL and popular on JLU cartoon. The new Earth 2 Superman is black but he's that Earth's Superman not the original white Clark Kent Superman. Miles Morales can never replace the REAL Peter Parker but Miles was ok as Ultimate Universe Spider-Man. nuff said

Remember in the 1994-1996 "Clone Saga" when Ben Reilly was supposed to be the REAL Peter Parker having thought he was the clone and in hiding for 5 years comic book time, but WE the READERS were to have been reading about the REAL Clone for 20 years! The real Peter would return as Spider-Man and the clone would act as a mentor to Peter! Spidey fans were outraged and Marvel quickly switched things back. Ben was killed and revealed to be the clone and Peter resumed his life with Mary Jane even though Norman Osborne stole their newborn baby.

I liked Ben Reilly and think he could have been kept around as Peter's blonde haired cousin who Peter would mentor!

In 2nd Spidey set I still want ben in his 1st red costume with sleeveless blue sweatshirt- Scarlet Spider!

You are correct, this discussion did take place at Marvel. And, they also were considering making him Gay as well, thus creating a total PC character. They would have had a nice trifecta to pander to the masses.

And pandering to the masses is how companies make money and stay in business.

That said, I was never a fan of taking a White character and making them another race. Some of my favorite heroes growing up were The Falcon, Black Lightning and Black Panther. Wish they did not always have to have Black in front of their name, but...

...it was the originality of the characters that I liked. Before I knew more about the whole Green Lantern Corps, I wasn't a fan of John Stewart either. Then I found out that Hal was part of a group, so it was fine, all the way through to John being the JL and JLU GL. That's why the return of Milestone Media may actually have me picking up a comic book regularly for the first time in four years.

Sometimes the change works. Nick Fury in the Ultimate and MCU works. Sam Jackson has been a big part of that. I cannot stand that the Human Torch in the new FF movie is Black, anymore than I liked the Kingpin being the late great Michael Clarke Duncan.

All that said, again, it's about making money and going back to the 90s, the entertainment has been lazy. Movie remakes and reboots. Oversampling of music, down to using a previous songs' chorus for a "new" song. I'm not a fan, but I guess I am from a different era. I am sure there were a lot of people that hated the Silver Age of comics and the ushering in of a Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, Kator Hol, Ray Palmer, etc. I bet that wasn't seen as being very original either.

I know zip about Miles Morales. And I still don't see how the license would allow for him to be put into a set with Peter Parker, Peter Parker clones or a future, non-Peter Parker character that picked up the Spider-Man moniker, so the whole point may be moot anyway.

The Scarlet Spider was the one that messed up Spiderman the worst IMO. It almost destroyed Spidey comics, at the time .

I didn't like the "hoodie"...but I liked his 2nd costume.
