Well, Mattel can throw out the word retro if they go with modern looks or retooled DCUC heads. The sculpts that were used were intended to look retro and to fit in with the original Mego figures, not to look like scaled down Hot Toys.

I think the sculpts that Doc and the guys at EMCE did for Retro-Action were awesome and perfectly fit what they were intended to be, comic versions of the characters that existed during the Mego era. I will be real surprised if Mattel continues down this same path. They already tried to move away from it with some of the GL figures and it really hurt the line. Even if Batman or Superman movie figures would sell better than GL I don't think as many people would be interested in those as retro Mego era versions of those characters. I am going to hope for the best but if they start cranking out Mego style New 52 and movie figures I won't support the line anymore. I have no interest in those versions of the characters.Comment

I suspect Mattel is being told to promote the new 52/modern/movie stuff from DC.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Everything is speculation at this point but if that's all they're going to do with the line then they will lose the bulk of the audience it is intended for. I'd rather see it officially ended than to continue that way.Comment

Still they need to fix the bodies.Comment

^^^ It makes me think that is part of the reason the Retro line was killed. Because they weren't New 52 style. Classic Superman as opposed to the armored up Jim Lee design. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. I just hope that if they are doing that...they're in the 8" Mego scale. I know they're also doing a 7" scale...but don't collect 7" figures. The ones I did have I sold...including my "Hush" figures.Last edited by The Bat; Dec 30, '11, 11:12 AM.sigpicComment

Well that is an interesting idea... If You were a company looking to cut costs, would you be able to leverage the existing four horseman head sculpts and various accessories that already were produced for the DCU Classics line? How would they look scaled up and on Matty bodies?Comment

Talk about the new 52 is, I think, a relevant argument here. That very well could have played a big role as to why Mattel took Retros out of circulation. That being said, I think it also reinforces the idea why they want to keep the collectors in the game. Thus they sell these figures in limited quantities at Mattycollector, while the DCU figures get the new look. Robin would be a nice starter figure.Comment

That's very true. My friend Chris is a Heman collector...and Matty has kept that line alive for years through online Matty Collector.sigpicComment
