    A little RAH news

    http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=36077

    The article states:

In addition to the 6-inch figures and sets such as the Legion one -- which sold out so quickly it necessitated a second offering -- Mattycollector also offers other lines from the Mattel/DC pairing including the 8-inch cloth Mego-like Retro Action toys, some of which also sold at Toys 'R Us.

"We know that there is an audience of Retro Action collectors who love the offering in that form factor," McLachlan said. "Since the line targets collectors, any future offerings will likely be seen on Mattycollector.com."

I bet we see something on Mattycollector.com sometime in 2012. Robin/Joker maybe?

That would certainly be good news if I believed a word out of any Mattel executive.

With the games they play on their site on release days, I see it being a train wreck. Now, if they get their act together, I could see quarterly releases of RA. I don't know how far the EMCE protos were developed, but it sounds like they have all they need to pump a few more out. I seriously doubt we'll see Robin as they'd have to tool a third body for just one character.

As much as I'd like to see the line continue in some capacity, I have doubts on Mattel's ability to commit itself.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I hate to say it, but with the reappearance of the 4 Green Lanters on Matty, I'm thinking that the best way to continue it might be to keep the line going with endless Superman and Batman variants in modified costuming, and fill out a wave with the 2nd and 3rd stringers short packed for collectors only. See,s to work for the Batman and Superman centric lines as well as the JLU. Leaves lots and lots of Supes and Bats for the kids and collectors get thrown a bone when a character like one f the Metal Men or Plastic Man shows up in the brave and the Bold line for example.

So you have your Black suited batman or Superman in kryptonian outfit at a heavy ratio to your short packed Dr Fate or Brainac or Metamorpho.

The cost savings on churning out the big two endlessly, essentially subsidizing the less popular characters.

It seems like Superman and Batman do disappear pretty quickly off the shelves and at Matty.

Short of only producing characters like Robin or Joker, limiting the line to collectors kind of makes me nervous for the future f the retro DC figures.

Did that info come from Wiki leaks by chance?

That would be great. I hope that it holds true.

I just read this myself before I found anyone had posted it here. I am going to stay positive that we might see some new characters in 2012. At least they realize there is a market for these now. I think if they are sold on Matty and targeted at collectors they will sell well without having to be padded with Superman and Batman every wave. It's my guess they will offer a figure at a time every few months. As long as the characters are genuinely retro I will buy every one.

I would love to see the line continue and I hope Mattel does keep rolling them out. If they are Matty exclusives I can't see any reason for them not to be able to limit the numbers and still turn a profit. My reasoning comes from using Bif Bang Pow as an example... You figure the Venture Bros are released in a 3,000 unit run and the line appears to be going strong. Considering that VB is a very niche market and 8 inch classic style figures are even more so for a company such as Mattel to not be able to do the same thing seems odd to me, especially with characters that are household names such as Robin and Joker.

As far as a new body for Robin, I highly doubt they would bother with that and just do the same thing that Mego did. Plus would it really matter if he's not a head and a half shorter than Batman? Personally I don't think so. Would it be nice? Of course but I don't think it would really affect sales one way or another.

If they make a true Teen Wonder type Robin, than the size really won't matter. If you go by Who's Who, adult Dick Grayson is the same height as Barry Allen!!!

I, too, was going to post a link to that article! I remember Doc Mego advised us to "run silent, run deep" regarding whether or not more RAH were planned, so...maybe...there will be more.

                    Come on, Dr. Fate... .

That's what I was thinking too. You don't need to create a new body for Robin...just do the college age Robin from the Neal Adams era.

As much as we'd like to see new figures...samurainoir may have point. Toy companies are cheap and doing variants and re-using molds is something they like to do. Maybe a new sculpt molded cowl Batman, year one style?

                          That's hilarious.

If Mattel wants to make some RAH I'll support 'em. There are so many talented people on this forum that all they are doing is saving us time from making the figures ourselves.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

6 figures were delivered to Mattel complete. Not too much new tooling was
required, so I am hopeful that, if the cost of production is low, they will
make at least some of them for 2012.

We have heard that the line is "on haitus" "cancelled" "being slowed down"
"re-thought" - before that we were told sales were good, the line would
continue for 5 years, the kinks were worked out.

Now a year later, I suspect that if the line continues, it will be without outside input.
Mattel is moving more towards in house sculptors for more projects.

The problem is it seems with Mattel, you get word from one section of the company and another section tells you something else.
