That is really just splitting hairs.

They produce a certain amount of an item for sale and set aside a percentage for returns. After an alloted amount of time expires the unclaimed amount is relisted with yet another percentage of that left out for returns of that sale. Wash, rinse repeat until the supply is finally totally exhausted.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I have to disagree. It is very intentional marketing that is targeted to illicit the "Gotta buy now" reaction. I'm not faulting them I just think it's a cheap tactic not just by Mattel but any company/ product/ service that uses those type of aggressive sales tactics. I'm turned off by it. It's a personal opinion and a matter of choice.

I feel like a chump. My wife bought me a retro ga on amazon for a rather high price because we thought there wouldn't be any more available. So I snagged another tonight on matty because of the bargain. I just couldn't resist mego goodness. I do however question mattys tactics and believe they did this to drive up demand initially and now thet are liquidating old stock.

Although I, too, question Mattel's business practices, they do need to hold a certain amount of product back for returns/events/etc. so I don't think there's enough evidence for me to condemn them. This may have just been leftover stock. Who knows how many Green Arrows they have left in stock? Maybe not many...relatively...?

You guys are giving the people at Mattel too much credit. You are looking at one
item at street level, while the people there get a report showing inventory in
stock - usually less than mint - and put it all up for sale to close out the stock.

The marketing people who planned the release of Green Arrow consider it over.
This is the work of the warehouse staff doing a physical count of inventory.

I agree with Doc that we are giving Mattel way too much credit for thinking about how to sell their stock.

It does seem like quite a bit of lag time to run out the stock, but it is what it is.

When I used to pick up Sideshow items, they would place you on a wait list for an item if it 'sold out'. Then, after all the returns and cancels were sorted out, they filled the wait list. If there was anything left over, it tended to show up in a special or clearance. Seems a lot more tidy that way.

But, again, Matty is what they is and their business practices are best left to internal decisions. Judging by the amount of 'sellouts' on the website, it would seem that the online exclusive is the way to go (or would have been the way, as it were) for selling the RA figures. Much better to continue to sell out your reserve stock than the clearance sale blow out of your excess inventory that is not moving or being ordered at brick and mortar.

I paid more for mine at Chicago Comicon two years ago. Now I bought one on sale. Overall, I am thinking I still averaged less than originally sale price from Matty. I can open one and keep one sealed. I guess I am just enjoying that I got one so cheap.

It's honestly a shame they ever had to clearance/discount the prices because of low sales. Had they never needed to do that, we might be seeing a new set.

I for one hope the sell through might produce new figures. Go Doc!!

Got my Green Arrow today! It looks awesome in person, much better than the online photos.

It took a week to get here, even though it shipped from only 30 miles away.

I wish all the Retro Action came with cool accessories like Green Arrow does.

The felt on Green Arrow's costume shoulder-flares is a nice touch.

Does Green Arrow suffer from the loose waist like the first-wave Superman and Green Lantern?

Nope, Green Arrow's waist appear to be okay. As I recall the story going, they removed a piece from the Arrow run and it didn't come back until the second wave or so.

Here's my review of that jolly green chap!

Oh yeah, I remember about the missing piece now. All of those slumped figures because of a missing piece.

Very nice review. I remember reading it earlier when you posted it.
