A teary eyed look back at your favourite DC Retros
I'm a big fan of all the eighties details on the Guy Gardner figure. Belt, Vest, even the chunky boots. An you can't beat the fact that they captured that smirk that Kevin Maguire drew so well.
i like the whole line. im steadily still collecting them. only a few more to go and i'll have all the "good guy" side. my favorite is probably superman if for no other reason than its superman! yea, putting past that lines problems it was stellar and i wish it could have continued for at least another year. who knows, maybe sometime in the future it WILL continue. we can only wish i guess. i especally like the retros because its what brought me to megos in the first place (i had a few as a kid but they were already basically gone by the time i was ten). i cant wait to get started on collecting characters like darkseid and cheeta...
This line was very hit or miss for me. I would have purchased more if I'd seen them in person. Having to buy online sight unseen kinda killed the joy for me. I only own four.
Superman - I had to buy him. The suit's red bits are a little on the pink side and the head is nowhere close to the character, but I felt compelled to get this one due to my obsession with Supes figures. Of course he flops like he has IBS.
Sinestro - Pretty cool figure and good likeness. Of the original four, this was the best sculpt. I don't know if this was a good choice for an initial line launch character, but I'm a Sinestro fan, so I was cool with it.
Darkseid - Another favorite comic villain for me. Some call it goofy, but I really like the padded suit. That was the most retro aspect of any figure in the entire line and has a unique charm.
Shazam - Fanboy here. This was an awesome sculpt and the best figure for me. Everything about him works. Based on the protos I figures this would be the Shazam figure I pass up, but it turned out so freakin well.
It's a shame that the line gets cut just when they have some serious momentum going, but it's a business decision. Mattel really hasn't a clue when it comes to customer relations. They took their finger off the pulse of the consumer a decade or so ago.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
I like the whole line m'self. Shazam/Capt. Marvel stands out as does Wonder Woman. Can't believe Two-Face got made and was so well done. I regret Mattel did not re-call the figures that were peg warmers like Lex & Sinestro and just re-dress them. MEGO would have done it and it would have probably been good for the line. They could'a put Lex in a business suit as he appeared in the `80's or a lab-coat or his Soldier of Fortune fatigues as he sometimes appeared in Justice League and Sinestro in his original Green suit as he would have appeared before going bad. I would have bought these variants in a heart-beat. I guess now I have to customize them.
Again I say we need one of those facebook "Like" buttons for comments exactly like this one. I love your pure heart HG, always have, always will.
Not a Facebook fan, but you're a sweetheart, Jim.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
I really liked the villains — Two Face and Black Manta are my favorites, but I like both Sinestros, Luthor, Cheetah and Captain Cold, Black Adam and Darisied.
Of all the heroes, I think Martian Manhunter is my favorite. The photos of the Kyle Raynor GL looks pretty good, too.
Wonder Woman is a good megoesque improvement. All the other figures in the line, I have some gripes about, but all in all they are still pretty cool.
My wallet's glad the line is dead, but my heart's not
i just dont understand mattel, its hard to believe this is the same company that created the original Masters of the universe. I wonder how different it would have been if it had been a company Kenner. (are they still around?). It may have even been different with Hasbro. I hope theres a way at some point to bring them back but under a different company....
My favorites are almost all of them. Top favs are WW, Capt. Marvel, GA, and Martian Manhunter. The only ones that were not A-listers for me were because I'm not a big fan of the characters themselves, Darkseid and Black Adam.
