I wonder if it would be profitable for Mattell to sell just the costume and head of a figure via Matty or some exclusive forum? That way we could buy (quality) bodies from Doc, which would help him out and Mattell doesn't have to worry about the additional cost or having too much packaging

They are not interested in making outfits. We asked about that many
times as a way to get more characters out there.

Making bodies is cheap and you get more money from a complete
figure than from just the outfit.

Barbie still has separate outfits because they sell too many of them
to cancel it. It's all about the numbers.

So you don't think they'd do it even if they charge the same price for a head and costume as for a full figure huh? I think people would go for the price point if it meant keeping the line open

I'm a big believer that this line made money. It just didn't make enough for what Mattel wanted.

Given what we received, I'm concerned about figure selection, but I would be inclined to sign up. I'd pray that it wasn't a line of 1990s losers like Kyle Raynor.

I was pleasantly surprised by the character selection we got in this series. I thought they balanced it well between the main attractions and notable mention characters. Plus having a villain with each superhero made good sense to me. Most kids need villains to wage their playtime just as we did in our generation. In the process, Paul got a number of great characters made (heroes and villains alike) that were oddly left out in the 70's. That alone makes this line priceless.

Agreed. Thing is, the line has to end eventually. I think everyone knows that. When you get down to making Gentleman Ghost or something along those lines, it's time to call it a day. Granted, some folks would buy them, but I'm sure not in the numbers to make the moola for Mattell

OTOH, I think there are still some figures out there that would turn a profit. Robin is an obvious choice. Even the Joker, the various girls and something new like Hawkman/Hawkgirl/Firestorm would probably sell via exclusives.

I'll admit that I would do a subscription if they chose that route. I'd like to have the chance to buy additional copies of figures in case I wanted to do custom figures too though.
