    Darkseid: "The Full Monty"

Well the package finally arrived! I had to wait for my daughter to get out of school before it could be opened. She specifically told me no opening the Darkseid without her present.

So.....I just opened it up and I am impressed with the whole thing.

Mattel could have gone with a Brock Sampson body with a set of beefy legs but they chose not.
For some reason they decided that using a regular new body and padding the heck out of suit would work. When I first heard that I thought there was no way this would work out and then I finally got to see this Darkseid up close and personal and it works.

From a viewer's stand point (me) I really enjoyed the precise areas along with the vinyl gloves that add just the right amount of bulk to give him a "big guy" look.
Standing at eight inches with his padded gear and bulky gloves and boots I think Mattel did a great job on this.

The head is pretty dead on along with Darkseid's Retro 80s look.

Of course the curiosity killed the cat (no pun intended) and some of you had asked me to remove the padded suit to prove that there is nothing but a regular gray body under here.
Whatever you do if you purchase this figure do not remove this costume. You'll need a map just to get it back on him without ripping the seems. The only reason I did it was because the question was asked.

    Here you have it...

Overall with what went into the design and the layout of this DC Retro Action Darkseid. The whole figure surprisingly gets a 9 out of 10. I am really impressed about the whole thing. The only serious downfall is the lack of when it comes to these new waves making it to the Toys 'R Us stores where they were promised to be.
Ebay looks like the only place I can go for these sadly.

Thanks for the pics. The padded suit looks to work surprisingly well.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Wow the padding really seems to work well. O.k. no excuse for not doing Penguin and Solomon Grundy now. The padding can work for them too. I'm loving these figures.

Thanks for sacrificing a figure for our education.
You guys doing "full Monty" helps me save money on buying what I do and Dont want. :-)

I havent got any of the retro guys yet. Do they have "Swivel Arm Battle Grip " hid in there?

With that mention of solomon grundy I get to thinking MAYBE a cool Bizarro might come out. But I'll dream of a Kirby Demon.

Without the suit he looks like one of those poodles where the owner has shaved everything down to the skin except for the puffy head. Otherwise he looks good...can't wait for my EE shipment.

thanks for the buff pic. I have been wondering how the wave3 and beyond body fix looks with the figure standing. Does the plastic insert in the pelvis/torso affect the mobility/playability of the toy?

When Mattel told us that they would not make a new body
for Darkseid - we thought making the big man in the regular
size would be a disservice to the character.

We put a lot of hours into making a padded suit that would
look aesthetically rounded instead of just sewing in a shoulder
                  pad and a thigh piece.

Glad to hear that it came out well.

I'm glad they went with the grey body instead of flesh colored.

I'm sorry... but the more I see the Mattel Darkseid, the more I want to make my own Custom Darkseid. But the Boots would be very helpful for a Custom though. I'm hoping I can pick one up at TJ Maxx for $10.00

The only thing wrong with this figure is I don't have one yet. I am stuck on pre-order status at entertainmentearth.com.

                            Are they here yet?
