I would have to respectfully disagree on the rubber suit part.
Many of the Kaiju would not be what they are without it. The suit defines the monster. Godzilla made out of Neptunian claws/feet with a Lizardesque tail would not do it for me. I am a major fan of the Takara Goji and the RAH versions that have come along since. I would include the microman versions in there as well. They are very cool little fellows.

That said; many of these sorts of characters could definitely be done with a colored jumper as a base and gloves/boots/chestpieces much like the Denys Fisher Mutron costumes.

Except "actual" rubber suits would be a no for me... I wouldn't want any that were like the microman kajiu sets - I'd prefer fabric outfits, with maybe hard plastic shell parts. Or even an 8" scale henshin cyborg style - with vinyl claws and torso coverings... I think the way Popy handled the kamen/ultra/etc was just right - but then we're in a RA debate.

        I do, that's who!

I probably wouldn't buy many Ultraman, but would be all over Godzilla, Gamera and the like.

there already are some mego esque toys of these characters made by two japanese companys- medicom and ohtsuka kikaku

medicom did an rah 220 series which were 220 mm tall and very high quality- the ohtsuka figures are called hyper heros and were smaller- both are really hard to find but they do exist.

both series include kamen rider , kikaida,

you may also want to know that megos were made in the 70s in japan using mego bodies, these also included ultraman and kamen rider- these are super rare and mega expensive.

Yep, I am aware of these. And this is exactly why I would like to see some remego versions of them. They are obviously popular enough to warrant high prices for vintage and secondary markets. It would be keen to have easy to find and inexpensive for, at least, a little while.

I am not too fond of the RAH bodies, either. I would like to see something with more play value and less shelf statue to it. RAH are pretty, but too fragile for me. The vintage Popys are great! I would love to see a modern version of those on the shelves.

Yes, I was actually thinking of about the Medicom RAH kaiju and Kaijin, mainly the Kamen Rider 220 figures. I have the Cobraman fig, and it's totally the alley of this thread, But the 220 figures are maybe an inch or two taller than a mego

                Guys,

I loves me some kaiju too, but this all sounds like great fodder for well made customes, and not something that would support a line. I have already looked into licensing for other products, and the numbers quoted are ridiculous. Add to it that Legendary Pictures is doing another "Godzilla" movie, the one I would have pursued, which would have been Haruo Nakajima in a rubber suit (done overseas, anyway), would need to sell for about $350 to be worth the trouble for the amount we think we'd sell.

I'd love an Ultra-family, too, but same situation exists.

I'd say this should turn into a customs challenge/contest with the better ones sold to interested collectors under the proverbial table at some place I'd rather not know anything about.

Well, at least we know where we stand then.

It is still a wish list thread. Dreaming is free.

and for the record, the ultra figs would totally be in rubber suits with hard helmets with the little eye holes under the eyes and the seam up the back the way the japanese do. it's clear that they respect the whole kabuki tradition of not denying that there is an actor in there pretending to be something else.

...and just like ultraman, you can only play with it for 3 minutes before it has to shrink back to hayata size.

Oh dude. The title of this thready had my hopes SO far up. Now they are dashed...

Godzilla I get. But Ultraman and some of those other licenses can't be THAT expensive, can they?!?

I don't see how this would work in the current format, unfortunately, so no.

I am an absolute FREAK for all things Kamen Rider, so I would definitely be down for them and some Ultramen! Heck, Sentai too....

I second this! My 2 year old son hasn't seen the shows or movies (yet), but has discovered and enjoys my collection Bandai Ultramen and monsters. Unfortunate to hear licensing these characters is so expensive. It would've been great to see EMCE versions of kaiju and tokusatsu heroes.
