who wants kaiju??

My son is currently enamored with an Ultraman DVD that we picked up at a thrift store. He was hoping that papa knew where we could get an 'Ultraman super hero guy' to pal around with his other super hero guys.

I told him we would have to make one.

Anyway -
How many other folks would be interested in 8" versions of classic 60s and 70s kaiju and robot figures? Ultraman, Johnny Socko, Godzilla, Kamen Rider.....

The majority of the monster/creature figures are basically men in rubber suits. That really shouldn't be too hard to pull off in the 8" scale. Denys Fisher did some with the android and mutron figures. They were pretty much an armature with some rubber boots/gloves/and body armor. There were some pretty cool Kamen Rider items with mego armature as well back in the day. Nothing now.

There are plenty of 12" versions of these sorts of things, but not much in the smaller format that are not statues or statues with cut joints.

So who wants to see Ultraman? Rodan? Kamen Rider? Baltan? Giant Robot?

Hey, if we might get a line of aliens from the Doctor Who series which are basically men in ill-fitting rubber suits - why not Kaiju?

I'm a big fan of Japanese monsters, Godzilla, Ultraman, Masked Rider, you name it.
It would be supercool to get some old-fashioned "rubber monsters" to fight our 8 inch superheroes!

My son and I would love a Mego-y Ultraman. Just put him in a silkscreened suit and the both of us would be happy with him. As long as he has swivel biceps and interchangeable hands. I should think the Cast-A-Way body would be perfect for an 8" Ultraman.

My son already has a bunch of the Godzilla toys that are around 8" tall and he loves them. If someone was offering 8" Mego-y versions of Ultraman, Giant Robot, etc., they'd have some guaranteed sales in my home.

I think 8" style Ultraman, Space Giants and Johnny Sokko. Kaiju, Super Sentai and Henshin heroes are a perfect fit for Mego-ing. For all the syndication those shows got back in the day, I'm surprised 8" style figures were never made. Spiderman & Ultraman super team-up! Shoowat!

I really like Masked Rider. I sasw TONS of goodies in Taiwan. I'd love to see the original Japanese show and all the different Riders.

Funniest collectable I ever saw : an Ultra man torso Toilet Paper dispenser. He has his hands out to hold the paper rolland speaks ( in Japanese) when you pull off the paper. Same store that sold Hello Kitty butane lighters !!!!

Kikaider (with vinyl head and hard plastic clear skull dome - tell me that wouldn't be made of win).
Kamen Rider I'd be down for too - as well as 8" versions (slightly off topic) of Shogun Warrior/Jumbo Machinder bots...

Bug eyed monsters are always welcome - so Kaiju and Dr Who baddies (where do you find bubble wrap in that scale to make the reptile skin??) would be swell.
Something like Noko Girin would be great.

Except "actual" rubber suits would be a no for me... I wouldn't want any that were like the microman kajiu sets - I'd prefer fabric outfits, with maybe hard plastic shell parts. Or even an 8" scale henshin cyborg style - with vinyl claws and torso coverings... I think the way Popy handled the kamen/ultra/etc was just right - but then we're in a RA debate.
