Gold on Shazam is a 90's thing as is the double breasted shirt(he had it for 3 or 4 issues in the 40's). All gold is better than mixing gold and yellow but all yellow would have been better.
I have seen Black Adam on Ebay, and I think that I will make my own custom version! He is a pencil neck geek. Gold or no gold he looks silly! You dropped the ball Mattel!
I don't mind the gold. I think it's cool. It certainly makes him look good. A bit more intimidating perhaps? Yellow might be more Retro though...I wonder if there ever were a yellow prototype that they just thought didn't look as cool as the gold prototype?
I really like the gold on black with Black Adam. I think he will stand out next to the other figures on the shelf. Nice contrast in color.
Yes, I agree about contrast. When I have several characters with similar color schemes, I prefer different shades, if possible. And with Wonder Woman and Capt. Marvel having magic/mythologic power sources, I think the gold suits them. To me, Capt. Marvel will look even more impressive now, standing next to my Mego Isis.
EDITED: ...because I realize you're making the point that the gold on the
figures will contrast with the OTHER FIGURES and not particularly on the
figure itself.
...still, I gotta say that from what I see, there's hardly ANY contrast with
the gold.,, the yellow has MUCH more contrast and would've been a boon
to the look of contrast on the figure's own constume(s).
The gold may be considered more "accurate"... well, to me it looks like
smudges on the costumes.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
Joe and I decided to go with gold accents on Captain Marvel
from the beginning for two reasons - yellow has been done
on so many CM figures over the years and the look chosen
for the movie serial was gold, not yellow. Since that came
out in 1940s when the principal creators were still at Fawcett,
we figured that was the closest to original intention.
I was worried that the gold boots would end up tan like the
DC Direct 13" CM - seeing that Black Adam came out right,
I breathe a sigh of relief.

I wouldn't have minded either...yellow or gold is fine with me. It's the Shazam head that's my only concern but I have a feeling it'll be just fine. The other heads I was initially worried about came out fine on their respective final/produced figures so I think Shazam will be awesome. I am dying to see a pic of him carded, I wonder why he seems to be held back with the other 3 appearing on E-bay? Anyone know?

Maybe they were getting back bad feedback from the goofy Black Adam, and they thought to nip it in the bud!
