Phil is right about those markdown stickers, that is usually for shopworn items and are not a chain wide clearance price. I worked for TRU for 17 years, and actual clearance products that have been discontinued always end in .98¢ instead of .99¢.

I just wish they were better stocked at my local TRU, as I've seen these there only once since they were released. Had to buy Superman at a local collectible toy shop instead for about $7 more, and still need Luthor.

The Toys 'R Us in Fayetteville, Arkansas, still has them at the $19.99 price point. Also, I saw them in Hastings... for $26.95.

I don't think this is good for the line at all.
Any Popular Toy line for the last 5 yrs, maybe even more has never been clearanced, ... with the Exception of a Target clearing here or there, for the New line of the Same Name, Transformers, Joe's , Star Wars. ... and such.

I can't think of a Clearanced Super Hero line thats only 7 months old..., Hell Walmart won't even clearance all them DCU Peg Warming Captain Colds, Cyborgs , Kid Flashes and Barda's.

This is just at one store, right? I wouldn't worry about it too much yet.

We also had a "round" of posts where this was discussed.. and where I tried to get a "FIRM" answer one way or the other. No firm answer was provided. So don't get your hopes up on this. (I would love to be proved wrong though.)

And on the subject of this thread (Close Out).. I'm in the camp that there are too many of these (Wave 1) figures still unsold, and it will impact some way Wave 2 production numbers. Either in total produced, case mixes, or both. Each and every TRU I visit has lots. And tru.com is never out of stock now, nor is AMAZON. Basically retail is choking on Wave 1. So, even if Mattel decides to produce the same amount, retailers will probably order less of Wave 2 to compensate for the Wave 1 over-stock. Bottom line is I think there will be less of Wave 2 around in total.

As far as the bodies go, Mattel seems to do any adjustments or corrections during production. That's why there were Luthor with unstitched straps at first and then it became stitched. No announcements, they didn't wait until wave 2 came out to change it, it was a rolling change. The same thing will probably happen with the bodies. One day, someone will pick up a figure and notice it's different. I think you will be disappointed if you expect a changed body by July when wave 2 starts rolling out.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

Other than Mattel perhaps addressing the broken bodies in the packaging, and perhaps working on a better Method of the Quality of the Body being put together, I personally don't ever think your gonna see anything else done to the body, it is what it is.

A Similar thing happened with the DC Universe Launch of figures..., Wave 1 was everywhere ...., Wave 2 & 3 came, and were very scarce, to the degree that alot of retail didn't carry them, and if the did ,... there was only a few here or there. Thus actually driving up the 2ndary Market on Most of the Figures in those Waves . They were not Exclusives either though, until the Invisible wave 5.

With this happening, it can destroy a line for the most part ..., but then propel certain pieces to command more value as well. a Rebound can Happen, see The DC Universe figures, ... but sometimes it does Not , See Indiana Jones Toys .

If anybody picks up a slew of GL's or even has an extra loose one please let me know. For some reason my store only has Luthors and Sinestros @ 19.99.
