I'm not sure you can judge anything by the action of one single Toys R' Us store.Leave a comment:

Yeah you want to be careful getting excited seeing certain figures marked down as it would be much better to have them sold out. Though it sounds like in this case there is a different reason as to why these specific figures are marked down at this specific store?Last edited by wyldpny; Jun 15, '10, 5:17 PM.Leave a comment:

thats how i got my card with no sinestro in it.Sorry everyone, but those labels are specific to a certain TRU and are not chain wide. These labels are used to mark down items that may be missing pieces, have damaged packaging or a few pieces of an item that has been around too long in order to get rid of them. If it is done to get rid of a few pieces it means that the item has been discontinued.
That doesn't mean the entire line of Retro Figures has been discontinued by TRU. Each item is assigned a six digit number called a SKN ("skin" but most large retailers call it a SKU. The first assortment of Retro Figures may have been discontinued but the next assortment is still active and has a different SKN number.
I worked for TRU for ten years and this was part of my job. Hope this information is useful.
the manager open a case to restock, and in the box was a perfect card and bubble with no figure.Leave a comment:

Those Luthors and Sinestros have been at the Times Square TRU since Easter.
On April 5th there was 1 GL and no Supes. On June 4th, I stopped in and
the price was still $19.99 and they had at least 20 of each.
Since wave 2 is due to arrive in the next few weeks, the store is trying to
clear out the shelf.Leave a comment:

Some excellent points raised in this thread. Another point worth mentioning though...Let's break this down by distribution of product and volume. How many TRU stores do we have in the US? Roughly 600. Now lets compare that to Walmarts and Targets where they are NOT sold. There are more than 2500 Walmart stores in the US and nearly 1800 Target stores. Each of these sell figure lines like those mentioned by Jason and you see the availability issues those lines have. CLEARLY there is more volume based on the number of stores to be distributed to, which also cuts down on COST. So the idea that a mere 600 stores in the US can saturate demand for an exclusive figure line in less than seven months is making a pretty strong statement. One: The interest is not as high as anticipated or Two:The price is too high which is reducing interest outside of the collector circle. So it sounds to me like Mattel is going to need to move this figure line out to other vendors to help reduce the ticket shock and make the line more popular...and profitable.
Oh and one more thing... Don't tell me that Wave two will sell as well as Wave One, now that potential buyers can see how quickly they get marked down. That will turn an initial impulse purchase into a better option to game the marketplace and wait for the discount to hit. Same translation: Time to lower the purchase price.Leave a comment:

Heck, Our TRU still has never had these, and it is a big store too.

If anybody picks up a slew of GL's or even has an extra loose one please let me know. For some reason my store only has Luthors and Sinestros @ 19.99.Leave a comment:
