The counter-argument would be that when Mego built its first bodies, it was being a toy pioneer. For something 30 years old, you'd think we would be able to build something at least as good.

Personally, I think there is some truth in both arguments.

But since what is done is done, I'm just hoping that the Mattel line will have its own "T2" body: with thinner legs, better posture, and swivel biceps.

It's a shame, I know there's ALWAYS lots of interest in new Marvel figures. As for the 9" not selling.. I think it's because they either weren't done all well (bad sculpts) or that the market's been saturated with the smaller 3" or 4" peg warmers.

I wouldn't agree with any of your thoughts on the subject.
The 3&3/4 inch rules toys right now ..., it's what kids want, thats why they didn't sell all that well.

That's perfectly fine.. I don't agree with a lot of other folks either on certain topics.

Just going by the toy stores I've seen, yes, the interest is in the smaller figures, which is why the larger ones aren't doing well. But I do see a lot of smaller figures still hanging around.

^^^ Some do ..., and it is hit and Mis ingeneral, like with any line.
I just don't think that they would keep making so many of them, and new and new lines, if the movement wasn't popular based on sales, which it obviously is.

I would never discredit any of the sculpts or costuming on the Hasbro Marvel 9inchers at all ..., them are fantastic figures over all, I have most, it's just that nobody wanted them, outside of collectors. I think 3 Spider-men right out the gate, and a couple of other guys like DD were poor choices , but when you look at the characters, they are real nice, and that body is just about a 101 pose body....., them characters can do anything.

Add me to the list of people who like the Hasbro 9" Marvel figures. I have them all (except Reed Richards). They are fantastic. Good sculpts, good costumes, and great bodies. I particularly like their solution for gloves and boots. Oh, and some of the DC figures were nice as well. Their Green Lantern remains one of my all time favorites.

I think a lot of Mego people were turned off by the fact that they were 9" instead of 8", and the costumes were not removable.

As far as I'm concerned, they could simply shrink the figures by an inch and restart the line. I'd be all over it!!!

Now that's an EXCELLENT idea! It would get me to buy them! I started collecting them but stopped...simply because they are not 8" scale.

The 3.75 inch stuff wasn't around when the Signature series was out, so that wasn't it. I really believe it was the one line Hasbro could get to the market quick once they got the Marvel line and that's why it was out there quick to be replaced with the Marvel Legends and various movie and Spider-Man lines.

^^^ Joes and Star Wars were ..., and still are in full force.
They are the Gateway ..., and Now the same company makes the marvel stuff.

Even Mcfarlane has 3&3/4 inch Halo figures now, and Baseball figures,... as well as new Prince of Persa figures, and DCIH ..., WWE Even has some. Mattel tried again with Avatar figures . They are everywhere, and they are everywhere because they sell. Reguardless of what people think, if they didn't sell, you wouldn't see every company trying to make them.

Speaking from someone who buys toy's on a regular basis ..., and did when the Signature series was out ..., no Kid that I knew, unless thier Dad was also a collector even gave a damn about the 9incher's , over a Star Wars or Joe 3 & 3/4 figure.

^^^ OK, there were no Marvel figures of that scale. Hasbro just cranked these guys as placeholders on store shelves, to keep the Marvel brand out there, till they could get more stuff sculpted and out to China. GI Joe RAH and Star Wars were always that scale.

a friend of mine actually knows the people that do the sculpts. The TRUE reason for the 3-3/4 marvel line, AND THIS IS A FACT, is because when hasbro was fortunate enough to take over the license, one of the key elements of nabbing it, was their pitch. within that pitch, they threw the 3-3/4 line out there along with sidenotes saying that they could make more of these faster and cheaper while retaining the popularity of the Legends line. They said something along the line of, "If you give it to us, we will make marvel fans really happy, because we can put MORE figures in their collection, and WE PLAN ON DOING EVERY CHARACTER that has ever been a player in the marvel universe" Thusfar they have delivered, She even got a few testshot figures (She is in the biz) to taunt me with winter soldier and Bucky Barnes.......and yeah I said SHE!

                              so to sum it up

low consumer cost+more licensed characters+ more Marvel character awareness (They DO sell comics you know)=greater profits. Marvel wins.

Noo, I didn't say that, the 9 inch guys they cranked out right after getting the rights were. Nowhere did I state that the 3.75 inch stuff is placeholders for something else. The nine inch cloth costumed stuff was quicker to manufacture than newly sculpted Legends or whatever else. All Hasbro had to do were design the costumes and sculpt a few parts like heads and new boots and gloves for Wolverine. The bodies and most of the accessories were reused Toybiz FC stuff or old molds from the Hasbro DC 9 inch line.
