Is The Iron Hot Enough? Marvel????

Hypothetically of course, Seeing the interest in 8"revival, Hasbro HAS to be looking over an 8" line....

BUT to make the line a sucsess, they also will need a consultant, You would think you would have to go directly to the authority (in this case a certain DR) to make a credible line.

Do you think there is sort of legal issue that would hold back a consultant from one of those new upstart 8" companies approching Marvel?

AND with the Buzz generated through trade mags and the like, not to mention Rumor of a MOUTH WATERING display at the SDCC, DOES MARVEL CONSIDER THE IRON HOT ENOUGH TO STRIKE????

I want my Silver Surfer, and my Nick Fury, and a hula hoop, and some robots, and a real official footbal helmet....Oh got ahead of myself (Sorry Santa)

yes if there any agreement in writing in its legalese there might be a clause in it, a certain Dr. can't offer any advice to a rivial company.if this is the case.It could be a breach of contract.the injured party can render the contract null & void and sue.
Even if there is a vocal agreement and word got out it might cause a split in the relationship.

Personally, I wish Hasbro had kept going with the Signature Series. Those were really beautiful.

The best figure in the line IMO was Doc Ock. If you've ever seen it out of the package and posed, it is hands down the definitive version of the character in action figure form.

Also, you have to keep in mind that the decision here is not Marvel's. Marvel does decide to make any merchandising. They only license their property to manufacturers. They also don't typically approach manufacturers either. It's up to the manufacturers to approach Marvel.

Currently, there are 2 companies that hold licenses to manufacture Marvel-based toys - Hasbro and Diamond. I don't know how that arrangement works, or who's license covers 8" Mego-esque figures, but IF anyone is going to do it, it would be one of those 2 companies.

Of those 2, Hasbro has recently tried making 9" figures, and sales were not good. Now, you might argue that there is a huge difference between 8" and 9" (and so might she ) but Hasbro might not see a big difference and simply say "been there, done that".

Diamond, on the other hand, does have experience with Mego repros. I say it's more likely for Diamond to pursue a line of Mego-esque Marvel figures than Hasbro. I guess it all depends on how their individual licenses are written. I have a sneaking suspicion Hasbro gets "first look" on something like this.

Personally, I want to have Marvel figures to go with my DC Retro Action figures. I've always been more of a Marvel fan anyway. But it is very likely a much more complicated issue than we know.

On last thing in the interest of clarity - This is not Marvel's decision to make. Every few weeks, someone start's a new thread or writes a new post with the question, "When is Marvel going to get on board?" Well, it's not up to Marvel. That's not the way these thing work.

Thanks for the information, but alas I can still hope and dream that I will get Dr. Strange one day in 8" mego style. He is on my top of the list with the Spectre. I read that Dr. Strange was scheduled to be made next, under the Famous Cover line, right after the Scarlet Witch figure. Dang I was really disappointed then.

Heck I'd be happy with a 3 & 3/4 inch Doctor Strange......With the rising cost of oil, I think it's a safe bet that the small figures are going to be the norm, The Marvel Legends line wasn't cost effective in the global market (everyone the world over has decided on the small figures) cost are the bottom line, now I would love to see various sizes, but let's look at this in another way.....we as collectors have years of toylines to buy from online venus (ebay, ioffer, etc etc). the big hole to be filled are vehicles and playsets.
Think about it, when we were young this is something we had in abundance, now....not so much (mind you they did repro the mego star trek bridge). but let's look at Iron Man, I'd love to have a killer Playset for him, that's where we need to look, Vehicles, and playsets!

I've been hoping that Diamond would consider expanding their Mego style platform to Marvel characters too. Unfortunately with them already throwing so much time and effort to develop Marvel characters in their quarter-scale line it seems even more unlikely for now.

I think Hasbro should hire a certain Customizer who goes by the name BlackKnight! Then we'd see some really KICK ARSE 8" Figures!

I think Paul mentioned once that Marvel and DC have no problem with people having simultaneous licenses for both their companies but Hasbro and Mattel would never go for it in a million years. Even if Hasbro did decide to take on something like this, without Paul it wouldn't really work. The only chance for real Marvel ReMego's would be if Hasbro used Castaway as consultants.

Somebody at Disney must be looking at Mattel's numbers and getting pretty miffed right about now. They'll find a way sooner or later. I'm guessing later.

another wildcard in the mix, is that DISNEY now owns marvel. Disney has had an OUTSTANDING relationship with Mattel for years. Bets are once Hasbro's liscence expires, Matty will do what nobody else has done since toybiz, GRAB BOTH LISCENCES!

ugh, if Mattel gets both licences then I wont be able to find Marvel figures anywhere either. :(

That prospect doesn't exactly thrill me...given the poor quality of the Mattel Retro Bodies.

Well, it thrills ME. DC Universe Classics and Masters of the Universe Classics are the two hottest action figure lines out there right now. The sculpting, paint and character selection are second to none.

DCUC has already surpassed Marvel Legends in sheer number of characters released, and they're all sculpted to match each other perfectly in scale, articulation and design. Toybiz, Hasbro, and DC Direct have all failed to pull that off.

Marvel hasn't had a toyline yet that has really done it any justice, IMO.
